State Police Update Re: Trooper Involved Shooting After Assault In Carroll Co.

(WESTMINSTER, MD) – Maryland State Police are identifying the suspect who stabbed a state trooper before being fatally wounded this morning in Carroll County, now that family notification has been made.

The suspect is identified as Michael J. D’Angelo, 34, of Westminster, Md. He was pronounced deceased this morning at the Carroll Hospital Center.

A motive for the suspect’s actions remains unknown at this time. Preliminary information indicates Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barrack had no prior contact with D’Angelo before this morning.

The trooper stabbed during the encounter with D’Angelo was released from the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland, early this afternoon. While recovering from his wound, he will be on administrative leave which is procedure following a trooper-involved shooting. The trooper is a six-year veteran of the Maryland State Police.
