Thank you for all the pm's, thoughts and prayers.

Both babies seem to be doing really really well for their prematurity. Baby A has been off the vent since Tuesday and is only on a nasal canula - breathing mostly room air. He started feeding through a tube Wednesday morning and is tolerating it very well. Baby B has been off the vent since Monday, also on a nasal canula and has also been feeding since Monday. The doctors, who are just phenomenal, feel very confident about them.

As for mom, I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm mostly a walking zombie - trying to find enough hours in the day to be at the hospital with my boys and home caring for my daughter. I'm healing well from the section - only pushing myself mildly more than I should be.

Again, thank you thank you thank you for all the well wishes. Reading them makes me smile.

 That is real progress!

Eventually, they will let you do some bottle feedings and what they don't finish will go up the nose in the rubber hose.

And thanks so much for the update. :yahoo:

Luvin Life !!!
My son was early and was sent to Childrens. When I saw the other babies there I realized that my worries were so small in comparison to many others.

To this day I remember the first doctor telling me to go home and rest. He said "Just think of us as babysitters, very expensive babysitters"

He was right and thank goodness for great insurance. My son's bill from them alone was more than I made that year and was paid in full.

Good luck to you and your babies. My wish was for my son, a December baby to be home for Christmas. He came home on the 23rd almost nine years ago.

I know the feeling of having a baby at Children's while still maintaining a "normal" homelife for a young one at home. I had a newborn (10days old) at Childrens and a 3 yr old at home. It's tough but if you explain that the babies need a Mommy just like she needs a Mommy, it might help when you are away from her. It seemed to with my son.

Congrats on your two miracles and I am looking forward to seeing pics soon! (hint..hint)

Ours was just under $90,000 from Children's.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a 29 weeker who spent 45 days in the NICU! He didn't make it home for Christmas (as we prayed and prayed for) but he came home on New Years Day (a GREAT way to start the New Year). We were on an emotional roller coaster (and I was not new to preemies, my other 2 were born at 32 and 30 weeks). One day would be AWESOME and then the next day we would take 2 steps back. It is sooooooooooo hard, especially when they are so far away! I had a 6 and 3 year old at home and my baby was 2 hours away! It was nearly impossible to be there everyday. I was reminded daily that he was with all his "other Mommies" who were taking great care of him and I should NOT feel guilty if there was a day I couldn't make it there. In fact, they encouraged me to stay home and rest some days so I would have the strength to take care of him when he came home.

My son just turned 2 on November 19th and is the most normal 2 year old you will ever meet. Keep your spirits up and I will be praying for you and your family.

PM me if you need to talk, have any questions, etc. I have been there 3 times and have learned quite a bit about the NICU!!!!!!

Wow, 45 days? I can only imagine how tough that was for you. Obviously, it all worked out in the end just like it will for HalfAngel and her boys.

I feel comforted knowing that we are fairly close to such a great hospital in case I ever need them. I'm almost 28 weeks pregnant now and a little "paranoid" because it's our first baby and I'm no spring chicken. It's good to know that if help should be needed, so many have had great experiences with Childrens Hospital.

Yes, it was VERY tough! 28 weeks is a great mark in the "preemie" world. Many babies in the NICU with my son were born at 23, 24 weeks and were progressing very well. I have never dealt with Childrens, mine were at Anne Arundel and Hopkins but I know that Childrens is a top notch hospital as well!!!!! Good luck and please PM me if you need anything or have any questions!
