Dear Friends of Marlow Heights 60s and 70s,

I used the recipe for a Mighty Mo aka Royalburger that is on my site, and have to tell you that the Royal sauce is the real thing! I ought to know, because I made my fair share of the Royalburgers, working at Jr. Hot Shoppes in front of Iverson Mall. I also put a link to a picture I took of my masterpiece.

I added information on the Marlow Theatre, from Marc, who used to work there as an usher from 1968-1970. As soon as I can find a decent photo of the theater from back then, I'll add it to the text.

When I was real young in the late 70's I remember a burger chain called Burger Chef, was there one in marlow heights? It was my favorite resturant the time LOL.

Thanks for taking the time to give me your feedback and visiting my site. I see that it also appeals to those that weren't from the area, or even that period of time, so there's something for everyone. Anyway, as far as Burger Chef goes, I can't rememeber in Marlow Heights. But I do remember them in other areas. If you go to www.dcgrocery.com, there might be a photo of one.

There were no Burger Chefs, anywhere around Marlow Hgts. area first one I ever saw was in Waldorf on 301, where Denny's is now. It got torn down and replaced by Bob's Big Boy, which was torn down and replaced by the Denny's.

There was a Burger Chef on Marlboro Pike across from Bishop McNamara High School. That was the place to go for after school fights -- "Meet me behind Burger Chef at 3:00!"

Burger Chef and Other Burger Joints

I don't remember Burger Chef being much of a presence in the DC area back in the 60s and 70s. I remembered them mostly from visiting relatives in other states. Anyway, go to this link for a tribute site to Burger Chef:

there's also a link to Gino's (remember the one in Suitland?), as well as nostalgic links of interest.

Actually, Burger Chef was where Wendy's is now. That is where Big Boy's was too. Their mascot was "Jeff". It was "Burger Chef and Jeff".
