Upper education and Maryland

In short I got this email:

I want to invite you to attend the Annapolis 101 dinner in the capital on Wednesday January 25 as Towson University representatives. Annapolis 101 is a day where student reps from all of the state schools meet with senators and delegates to lobby for higher education. This year we have been asked to send at least 25 Towson students to attend the dinner portion of this day. Governor Ehrlich will be one of the speakers at the dinner and I promise it will be great food.

Obviously I will be in support of more funding for upper education, as I will benefit from this because I am in college now... I know tuition in the past few years in this state has increased quite a bit (was like 35% for Towson since Erlich came into office). Unfortunately, I am not going to lie I am not the best educated when it comes to Maryland politics.

So lets get this started, how do you all feel about funding upper education?

If they didn't dumb them down first, would we really need to fund higher education? :eyebrow:

Why do people look to the government for everything?
Society benefits greatly from more education, this is incentive for the government to help with it. It should also be incentive for people to support the government helping with it.

People pay the government for a reason, everyone just has their individual needs/wants: you look to the government to stop abortion and gay marriage (keep our society moral and religious). I look to it for school amoung other things... We both look to the government for protection

While I agree with that statement, I think we need to focus on/fix elementary education before we go dumping money into higher education.

Based on the grammar of that email, I would say that Towson needs all the extra funding it can get!
Maybe after he finishes his upper education classes he can take some higher education coursework in grammer and rhetoric. :nerd:

One of the problems with higher education is it's availability. There are so many kids going BECAUSE there is so much money available and this has caused the quality of the supply to fall.

In my opinion, society has not gotten what it has already paid for so why put in more good money for poor results. It seems the more we, those that actually pay taxes, spend on education the worse the results are. Time to look for results for what has already been spent.
