Anyone going to the one at Calvert Elementary? I will be the one on my knees praying up to the heavens that my son gets a decent coach this year instead of those two teen-aged butt plugs he had last season.

We did it last year. My sons coach was ummm not that great. I was disappointed.

Kids go back and forth between wanting to play this year and not wanting to play.

Can't be worse than son's coaches last year. I am hoping he gets the same coach he had for soccer this year. I asked him and he's coaching so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. By the last game, we only had 3 players because everyone else's parents took them off the team because of the crappy coaching.

Yeah well the point of Upwards is to learn and equal playing time for all kids. That is NOT what happened.

:yeahthat: They didn't teach positions or anything and just told all the kids to give the ball to their brother. If anyone tried to make a shot other than the brother, the coach would ream them out for even trying.

Were our kids on the same team?

Maybe. I don't remember the coach's names but they were two teen-aged (atleast looking) boys and all the correspondence about practices, etc was done through their mom.

Nah this was an older person. I expected something different from Upwards. They preach about fairness and learning the game and it wasn't that way at all. It was all about winning and the one superstar player. You can't play without a team. If you don't teach ALL the kids you don't have a team.

The same three kids sat out every other period and this is exactly what they assured the parents wouldn't happen.

My grandkids were involved in sports with 'Upwards" and I have to say its fairer and better run than all the other sports associations I've encountered over the years. But, I do think they go too far the other way with the rewarding of everyone that plays, kids need to learn to lose, not win all the time. Better life lessons.

I do agree that kids need to learn to lose and not win all the time. My kid was on a baseball team last year and they didn't win a single game all season long and this year they won every single game. When he got all cocky about winning and being the best I had to quickly remind him of how he felt last year losing all the time. I really wanted the team to lose a game this year.

I managed to get in and out before evaluations were even to begin. Arrived 30 minutes early and was second in line. Much easier and better organized than last season. Now just have to wait to see who the coach is. Will be enjoying the month of November because it's my "break" between soccer and basketball where I won't have to worry about practices and games.

That is part of the reason I have been on the fence about this season. We just finished up fall ball and just as basketball ends Spring ball begins and runs through June.

Yep, same with us. Come spring, I will start having two kids in sports at the same time. I just hope their schedules don't conflict.
