Reminds me of the incident back in the early 1990s. We had an E-2 Hawkeye that had an engine fire that couldn't be put out. The pilot trimmed up the plane and the crew bailed out. Unfortunately, the plane kept flying on a heading towards Cyprus. The ship had to scramble an F-18 to go up and shoot it down before it went feet dry. Story

Of course!! they would stake out a police officer there.
