Digital cameras are great for recording holiday moments and travel memories, but they can also become useful travel tools when used in these ways:

On a piece of paper, write your name, number, e-mail, reward info and any specific instructions about returning your camera, then take a picture of it and save it as your first photo. If you lose your camera en route, the finder will know how to contact you.

Photograph maps, guidebook pages, fliers, store hours and other info instead of carrying them with you or writing them down. Use your camera's zoom to get detailed views.

If you're traveling with someone, especially a child, take a picture of him or her every day in case you get separated for an instant visual of what he or she is wearing.

Before you leave your hotel for a meal or sightseeing, snap a picture of the outside of it and any nearby street signs or landmarks to help you find your way back.

Take pictures of your rental car from all angles as soon as you pick it up. If you get blamed for any damages upon return, you can use the pictures as evidence.

Good info, thanks for sharing. I use my camera phone for some things like that. :yay:

I have always assumed someone would be smart enough to go under "Contacts" (on the main screen) and call the number listed as Home... but that could easily prove to be a flawed assumption.

The others are neat - especially photographing your child before going out in public.

One may consider carrying their phone at the ready when walking through a parking lot (or wherever) alone. If you spot someone suspicious you can snap a pic. Problems would be... low-lighting and the potential for a blurred photo, and what to do if they attack you (if you drop the phone, someone may find the photo but now you're without a phone; if you keep the phone you might be able to call for help, but the photo is useless).

i did, however, find a phone while waiting in line at Kings Dominion.

Nothing in the contacts list to help figure out who to call, so I started working my way down the list.. About my third attempt the phone rings. I answer it.. "We've lost this phone".. "I know, I just picked it up, and was trying to figure out who's it was!"

The guy standing in front of me looks around, the woman in front of him is calling me..

OOOH, and I did something similar to this in Solomons a few years back.

Kids skateboarding off of the ROOF of someones 'cabana'. New roof, and the kids were climbing up to the top and skateboarding down onto the street!

"Owners gave us permission, why are you taking our picture!??"

I was standing in the middle of the road to make sure I got their faces AND what they were doing in the shot.
