Marines use their KC-130 for Ground Support missions as well.. kind of cranks up the risk/ danger a little. Doing what A-10s do full of thousands of gallons of fuel.. in an unarmored cargo plane.. Balls of Steel

Reserve Squadrons are still flying the T's.
Don't know if this will shed any light on the subject, but I was surely unaware of so many variations. It is one workhorse of the military, for sure.
