Va. Killer Executed by Electric Chair

Apparently fearful of lethal injection, Brandon Hedrick on Thursday became the first person in the nation to die in the electric chair in more than two years. He was pronounced dead at the Greensville Correctional Center at 9:12 p.m. Last week, several guards showed up at Hedrick's cell late at night to present him with a form on which he was told to choose his execution method, Lee said. They talked about lethal injection, he said.
But defense attorneys in recent months have argued around the country that the combination of drugs can in some cases cause excruciating pain

Hedrick did not say the officers discussed reports of pain caused by the chemicals, Lee said. However, Hedrick was aware of those who raised concerns that inmates may be anesthetized but don't remain unconscious, Lee said. The defense attorney said he did not believe Hedrick was manipulated into choosing the electric chair, but added: "Clearly, that stuff spooked him."

So this guy was afraid of a lethal injection?
The pain he may or may not feel?
Gee wonder if he thought about that when he raped, sodomized and shot his victim-23 yr. old Lisa Crider, mother of a 5 yr. old in the face with a shotgun?
I would have gladly pulled the switch to fry this bastard! :yay:

I agree with you completely. Who gives a rats arse if he had a fear of pain. I'm sure his victims didn't like pain either.

Also Thursday, a child sex offender in Texas, Robert Anderson, 40, was executed for abducting and killing 5-year-old Audra Reeves, becoming the 16th execution this year in Texas. Anderson had a history of sexual offenses involving children that began as a teenager in Tulsa, Okla. He said he was booted from Oklahoma treatment programs to control his obsessions with young girls because he refused to comply with treatment center rules.

According to court records and Anderson's confession, he forced the girl to accompany him into the house and tried to rape her, then choked her and beat her with a footstool. When he discovered she still was alive, he drowned her in a bathtub. He stuffed her body into a large foam cooler, pushed the cooler down the street in a grocery cart and dumped it in a trash bin.

And this man had folks standing in the street protesting his pending doom!

On Wednesday, a San Antonio man, Mauriceo Brown, 31, was executed for the 1996 shooting death of a 25-year-old man, law student Michael LaHood Jr., during a botched robbery on the driveway of Lahood's San Antonio home. Brown is one of two men sentenced to death for the slaying that capped a spree of armed robberies over a two-hour period.

Next week, Allen Bridgers, 35, from Norfolk, Va., is set to die on Tuesday for the 1997 murder of 53-year-old Mary Amie in Smith County, Texas. Bridgers had been living with Mary, and shot her in the throat with a .38-caliber revolver, then stole her 1985 Lincoln Town Car and drove to the bus terminal in Dallas. He was arrested in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida three days after the murder.

You're next Allen! :yay:

It's a shame the state is so worried about his comfort. I'd of stuck him with sooo many needles he'd of looked like an accupuncture case gone bad!!

I had read somewhere that while Texas has the most executions, Virginia holds the record for fastest executions i.e. Virginia's death row prisoners spend less time on death row before they are executed. Would you happen to know off hand if this is true (I'm just curious)? You seem to know about this stuff! :flowers:

No, I don't know much about it. Look up 'John Walsh', that guy from 'America's Most Wanted' tv show, I've heard him speak and debate on the subjects of death penalty and victims rights, he has spent time researching.
