One of my customer's dog got sick a couple of months ago, she has a small dog, it became very ill and the local vet couldn't figure out what was wrong. She took it to a specialist in Annapolis and it turns out the dog had lepto. I am not sure what the whole name of it is, but it is a bacteria, usually the vaccine is in the dog's annual shots. However, and I did not know this, with dogs under 25-35 lbs they do not give them the vaccine because they can have a reaction to it. Apparently they can get it through feces or from picking up something like rawhide that has been outside and gotten wet.
The reason I am telling you this is one of her neighbor's dogs got sick, but the vet didn't test for lepto until my customer told the neighbor that could be it. And it was.
Anyway some of the symptoms were vomiting, dehydration, listlessness. I thought it was interesting and I'd pass it along.
