Values of blacks and whites are converging, survey finds

"Washington - Despite a surge in pessimism about their economic prospects, black Americans are more likely to blame individual failings – not racial prejudice – for the lack of progress by lower-income blacks, a significant change in attitudes from the early 1990s.

At the same time, black college graduates say the values of middle-class blacks are more closely aligned with those of middle-class whites than those of lower-income blacks, according to the survey released Tuesday by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.:

So, the middle-class blacks are recognizing what has been said since, oh, about 1990. There is no more 'keeping the black man down' it's now 'poor black man keeping the poor black man down.'

Of those surveyed, 40 percent also said blacks no longer could be viewed as a single community.

So 60% still say blacks are all alike??????? 60% say that the black kid who gets good grades and goes on to college has the same concerns and the punk who makes a living knocking over the 7-11????? The black woman living with her husband and children in the suburbs shares her values with the crack whore????? Her black husband is the same as the guy who sires a dozen kids by different women and has no relationship with any of them?????

"The values of the bottom and the top are different," says Mr. Kohut.
Duh. Freakin' genius. Curious how much they spent on this "study", because I could have told them the same thing for free.

Why don't we cut the crap? If you don't have an education or job skill and/or you are poor in America the deck is stacked against you...black or white. If you are lazy, stupid or otherwise f'd up, the deck is stacked against you...black or white.

When you begin to have some success and begin to accumulate wealth and possessions you tend to want to "conserve" these hard-earned assets...black or white. It's not a matter of blacks adopting "white values." I think its more of blacks becoming more inculcated into the the economy through the acquisition of liquid assets and other valued signs of economic prosperity.

Also, this idea of blacks being a single "community" has made no more sense over the years than it does now. Again, let's cut the crap. That kind of thinking is racist and illogical. Believe it or not blacks share many of the same cultural and experiential backgrounds as most whites. We have more in common than we realize. Unfortunately, its not easy to classify this commonality for most in the media. Therefore there has to be an invented dichotomy that makes one a member of the "black community" or to a lesser extent the "white community." I say lesser extent because I very rarely hear that term used. I prefer to think that we're all members of the same community and labels be damned. There are some f'd up white folks and f'd up black folks. I don't sit around dreaming about what is going to make me a better member of either the so-called black community any more than I suspect that any of you white folks sit around thinking of ways to to be a better member of the "white community." Most of us try to live our lives in accordance with the law, raise our families in a manner that prepares them for the future, spread a little love and joy to others and then rest when our time comes.

All of this crap about white and black needs to be squashed. We need to stop looking at each other as colors and start to look at each other as people living in a varied community who face the same sun each morning and the same moon each night. We need to understand that each one of us has our own struggles and triumphs and that we are ultimately in this together in one community.

Just my two pesos.

I really like most of what you said here.

Just a matter of semantics, though. The deck isn't stacked against you. If you're uneducated in a land that gives education for free, if you have no job skill in a land where job skills can be obtained through nothing but actual effort on your part, if you are lazy or stupid.... you've chosen not to play the card game. The deck is not stacked against you, you're giving up the game. I agree with the idea that this is true, black, white, red, yellow, or green.

I like big greens and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a fairway turns in with an itty bitty approach
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung,

I'm hooked and I can't stop driving
Oh putter, I wanna get wit'cha
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that putter I got makes me feel so horny

:buddies: So if that report is correct, and there is reason to doubt it,

then it means that once again the domineering whites have pushed the African Americans into submitting to the bigotted and disgusting opinions of the white beligerant majority - again.

I find that to be a sad report, and if it is true then it is another white atrocity pushed onto the minority population.

Don't worry, you are living proof that the "white community" does not have the market cornered on productivity and responsibility.

Please, provide the reason.

Why do you hate whites so much?

Actually, it doesn't say anything about whites driving anyone else to the same beliefs. It describes people of personal responsibility sharing values - regardless of color (see, that was the point of the article).
