With the new law that passed yesterday is it going to be mandatory for emissions testing in St Marys?
The Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program is run by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. It checks to see if your vehicle's exhaust, to determine if it is poluting the air too much. This program is not statewide, it's only limited to the counties of: Prince George's, Charles, Calvert, Carroll, Montgomery, Howard, Anne Arundel, Queen Anne's, Frederick, Washington, Harford, Cecil, Baltimore County and The City of Baltimore. If you live in Garrett, Allegany, Kent, Saint Mary's, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset or Worcester, you are exempt from this test.
I was wondering too, couldn't find anything on the MD MVA websites. But I did find this, take with a grain of salt as it may not reflect the new rules:

For once, the state actually considered a cost-to-benefit ratio for spending taxpayer dollars. For your consideration ...
I wonder what happened to equal application of law?
No for once Maryland actually followed the federal rules instead of imposing more s*** on us. VEIPis actually a money maker for the state I believe. But the federal guidelines only require it in counties where air quality standards dip below the requirements. The state has made noises about just making it state why and disregarding that but it hasn't happened so farFor once, the state actually considered a cost-to-benefit ratio for spending taxpayer dollars.
Just found the date of that entry. 9 years ago.I was wondering too, couldn't find anything on the MD MVA websites. But I did find this, take with a grain of salt as it may not reflect the new rules:

That much I knew. Knowing the propensity for MD lawmakers to find any/every way to suck money out of us, I figured that they would have put VEIP here too if it was going to make them any money. But the federal guidelines only require it in counties where air quality standards dip below the requirements.
I don't know whether VEIP adds much to State revenues. The inspection stations and employees aren't State employees. I'd imagine the contract went to the lowest bidder and the operators have to get their cut from the $14/vehicle.

I don't know. I started to look but I just don't have the time or desire to winkle the number out of an 800 page budget. I did glean that the cut the testing company will get has been increased by a substantial amount (something like 30%).Md. poised to make changes to vehicle emissions inspection program, but some questions remain unanswered - WTOP News
The Board of Public Works appears poised to approve a contract that would double the amount of time owners of new cars would need to get their first pollution test.wtop.com
Its in the millions. If doubling the amount of time that new cars are exempt can cost the state from 3 to 6 million lost revenue, imagine how much more they are pulling in.
Yeah, I've always wondered why the didn't sink their fangs into that artery. Maybe Steny didnt want to be bothered......
