VEIP Mistakes

Just wanted to offer a heads up to those of you who are required to test your emissions, VEIP has really been messing up lately and it could cost you.
I bought a used vehicle in late Sept., registered it in MD, same address I've always had since I first began driving.
Was in an accident a couple weeks ago and was cited ($140!) for having a suspended registration. Because of emissions. I have never received notice one, late notice, suspended registration notice, NOTHING!
My Dad who receives his mail at the very same address received a notice that his registration would not be renewed because of failure to comply with emissions. He never received ANY notices either. I went to the post office and asked the postmaster and was told that MANY of the postal patrons had similar issues with receiving no VEIP documents.
So the long and short is that you should check out your documents and make sure if your two years are up that you call them and find out what's up.
I'm sure they would rather have the $140 for the fine instead of the $15 (or so) for the inspection, and I wouldn't put it past the MVA hoping that it isn't contested and just pay the stupid fine.
I'll be in court on this one for sure...

OH and according to the post office AND the DMV....the post office cannot forward DMV mail if you submit a change of address.(for instance a suspension notice) This is what we were told by the lovely ladies at glen burnie and when we took it to court we won, so I would assume its true.

When we moved to Calvert a few years ago, all of our vehicles were titled to our old address. I first noticed hubby's motorcycle tags were expired when we came out of the grocery store. One by one, our other vehicles expired with no notice. We were told that, even though we changed the address on our licenses, it did not affect the titles of our vehicles.

We had to submit a totally different form to request that the title info be changed as well. What a PIA - should be a change across the board when you change your drivers license.

Oh, and hubby couldn't do the online change of address like me because he has a CDL. He had to physically go to the license center and request a change. And where do you suppose he had to go to do that? Annapolis of course because the mini-MVA office, which only processes driver's licenses mind you, in Prince Frederick couldn't do it. Sad that Calvert County has no MVA whatsoever and I end up paying Direct Title $20 to do what I could do for myself if I had an MVA location here. :tantrum

No wonder Direct Title has "4 locations to serve you." The owners are probably retired in the Bahamas by now.
