Verizon DSL

Does anyone here have it and live in the California area? I've been having problems and Verizon is not much help. It goes up and down and it usually says something like "well known provider not available". The DSL light on the modem blinks and I can hear the hissing on the line coming and going. Just wonder if anyone one else has this problem.

Probably not or it would already be posted.:lmao:

I had a problem with mine just 2 days ago. But its not the same symptoms as yours.

I lost internet connectivity on my Westel Wireless Gateway.

My computer and Xbox would connect to the gateway, but that was it.

I could ping the router, I could also ping Verizon.net, but no internet access.

I called Verizon and had the problem fixed in 10 minutes. There was a configuration problem with the Gateway, it had the wrong IP address for the Verizon internet server.... We reconfigured it and boom, done.

Now your problems sounds more like the physical lines comming into your house. Do you have phone problems when it rains??? We used to. Our phone would drop out at the box up the street. It affected our DSL too.
Verizon had a tech out in a couple days and fixed the feed coming into our house.

Or maybe your router/Gateway is going bad

I would try calling verizon again. Not all their phone tech's are that knowledgeable. Most of them read from a flow chart, and thats about the extent of thier IT capabilities.

The girl I got a hold of tuesday was on the ball... Not to mention I did half the troubleshooting myself before I called

Thanks.
About what I think, lines or gateway (Westell). I've called Verizon several times and usually the stupid thing starts working at some point so they say ok, fixed.
I asked for a new gateway and they said they would send it, but I haven't seen it. I wish they would keep track of everything I've reported on this problem, but each time its like starting from square 1.

Ive seen a few of the Westell Wireless Gateways on Ebay. Not sure if they were brand new, but the starting prices were $9.99

i recently signed up for DSL and mine was doing the same thing.
Mine worked at first but then just crapped out. after that it would disconnect every 5 min or so.
Finally i got a tech to the house and he replaced one of the terminal blocks on the side of the house with a Data only one. now it works better than ever.

DR, I've got DSL, had it for a couple of years now. I can't complain. It's been pretty solid since I got it. Once in while I cannot get to a website, and if I look at the Westell modem, the Internet light is out. Comes back on within a few seconds and I continue.

I've had DSL since they came out with it and it is doing fine here in the Park, no problems here. Your filters may need changing. Walmart sells them for about 5.00.

 Didn't know they got dirty ?

:lmao: They don't get dirty they just go bad. It usually takes years for that to happen but it can happen to a brand new one if you get a bad one. Ask Verizon. they will tell you that eventually you will have to change them.

Same here. Twice now, however, the incoming/outgoing server addresses
have gotten "lost" - somehow, and all I had to do was reinsert them correctly
into my PC, under "tools" and "properties". Other than that, my DSL works fine.

I used to have verizon way back in the day, and when talking with level 1 tech support one day, i asked them if i should send them a tracerout "ummm whats that sir?" I was like you are level 1 techs you dont what a simple tracerout is?

I hung up and switched service :killingme

I thought the filters were just to keep noise off of your phone so it wouldn't bother you while talking.

I can't get DSL in the area where I live at. :ohwell:

I only have two choices: Phone line or Metrocast.... Had phone line internet for years and years, and got tired of slow dial up, so we switched over to Metrocast a year ago.

They are... Plus your DSL Gateway shouldnt have a filter hooked up to it.

The filters are only for your phones.

:yay;

Now of course today, when I had planned on spending on this problem, it hasn't even hiccuped.

One thing their online help site says is the phone to the router should be no more than 12'. Why? From the block at the back of the house to this jack is probably 60' already.

Might have something to do with data transmission limitations of the phone line? However, the length of my line to the DirecTV Hidef receiver is longer than that, so I'm not sure what's going on.
