Verizon Messages (Message+) discontinuation

I haven't figured out which messages (there are 2 on Verizon) is shutting down, but I presume I won't be able to use Verizon for texting anymore; that it will be Google.

I'm really really beginning to hate Google.

Naomi Brockwell was showing a list of companies that Google owns, and it's ungodly. Ultimately, a few giant multinational corporations are going to own everything in the entire world; housing, food production, technology, manufacturing, everything. It gives new meaning to the phrase "you will own nothing, and you will like it."

Personally, I do not want my message sharing, including emails, across all my devices. 1st of all, I have a PC, a smart phone, and my 2020 Tundra.

They always say "we're doing this to create a better user experience," and bullshirt like that.

No. No they're not. They're doing it so they can learn every single detail of our lives so that a) they can sell that information to their companies, and anyone else with the medium of exchange - while charging us exorbitant amounts of money to betray us, their customers, and b) to control what information we have access to, and are allowed to disseminate.

Verizon Messages (Message+) is a texting app that lets you sync your texting conversations across all your compatible devices. Verizon Messages (Message+) is separate from your phone's other texting apps (i.e., iMessage, Google Messages, etc.).
Important: Verizon will start to shut down the Message+ app on 10/2/24. The app will be fully discontinued on 11/7/24.

When Google first went IPO, I told a stock-watching friend he needed to buy some, because I could see it becoming big.

Too bad he didn't listen to me.

Oh, and BOP, hubby has been having a fit about changing messaging apps, so it's not just you.

My new phone (to replace the one ruined by Yellowstone rock encounters) automatically had the Google messaging set up, so I had a crash course.

I'm wonder how this might affect people, like me, who use other services like StraightTalk. I use the Samsung message app, but all of it is back-ended by Verizon services.

I never got into SMS texting ... in the era before Smart Phones

When I bought my 1st Smart Phone an iPhone 4S ... I installed FB Messenger and discovered KIK.

Now some 12 yrs later the only SMS messages I get are from my bank or doctor loging into a website

Kik is now trash

I use

What's App
Signal
Telegram

and Discord ...

To communicate with my global friends

And to think it really wasn't that long ago they broke up Microsoft because of a pre-installed web browser....

I just looked at Signal last night, briefly. Need to look more into it. Also thinking about switching to consumer cellular.

I looked into that a few years back, and at that time you could only access the internet by using their app which funneled you out. Couldn't use FF, etc... Didn't fit my needs, so went with StraightTalk.

Depending on your level of Paranoia - the end to end encryption is nice, there are a couple of apps ' more secure '

But for most Signal or Telegram get it done ...

What's App has a HUGE Global base, but 1000's bailed when Facebook bought them out, then wanted to start scanning message content to customize advertising.

even though WA has E2E encryption ...

I am very happy with Ting, you only pay for what you use

What phone do you like?

I'm looking to see which one is readily available to jail break and install Graphene OS on it. Leading contender is Pixel 8, I think is the latest version.

I just looked, and it looks like I can get one from Amazon. The latest looks like Pixel 9 is the the one.

I use Straight Talk and Google Messages and have for years. I have a OnePlus phone

Anyhoo, I love it! I can also pair my phone with the Messages app on the COMPUTER, when I am at my computer at work or home ....and it's SUPER fast for me to text since I can use the computer keyboard. 🤩🤩👏👏👏

Bouncing off off this, I have the Discord, What's App. Telegram and Signal desktop apps running most of the time, as I am at a computer all day
