Ok, just out of curiosity.......I adopted a puppy recently and in the past month have spent over $300 on shots. Am I getting ripped off? I just went today and had 3 boosters that include the distemper, lyme's vaccine and...can't remember the 3rd....but cost me $83. Is that the normal price? I ask because I also asked about neutering and they gave me a printout saying it would be over $400 for that, and that seems like alot.....don't get me wrong, I plan on still getting all the shots and getting him neutered, but I would just like to know if this is what all places are charging these days....

Yup..bout 20 bucks a shot and then the office visit...all adds up...and neuter is major operation. Check around..SMAWL, Charles County Humane Society may offer cheaper services.
400 for a neuter is high..I agree....check around..

Isn't there a place called Lucky Ones in Charlotte Hall? I can't remember, and it sounds like your quoting my vet! I just took a cat in and got a 10 min. exam and 3 shots and spent 140.00! :faint: I totally agree, vet prices in this state are out of sight! :howdy:

Go to the Well Pet Clinic, cheaper prices, good service. Reg Vets have gotten outrageous w/ prices.
SMAWL offers a low cost spay/neuter thru Tidewater, you have to contact SMAWL for that info.
Lucky Ones in Mechanicsville area also does low cost spay/neuters.

Get Pet Insurance. The cost of Vet visits and shots prices are reduced. :coffee:

From working in a vets office the pet insurance is a big waste of money. I have seen tons of people get the pet insurance to find out they don't cover MOST reasons for getting the pet insurance in the first place. IE. an emergancy surgery, cancer, most surgeries, things like that. It is terrible that they don't and most don't read the fine print. NOW i haven't worked with the vet in about 3 years so this might have changed but read very careful and ask LOTS of questions and read the fine print. They also didn't help with the prescriptions the dogs needed as well.

Sounds like prices from the PF animal hospital, they are real expensive. I think when I had my little guy neutered it was about 130 ish.
