Vet Broke Cat's Jaw

I took my cat about a week ago to the vets for a k-9 tooth extraction. The vet inadvertantly fractured my cats jaw. They sent him home with me the same day. When I picked him up he looked as though he had been hit by a car. They put a feeding tube in his neck and wired his bottom jaw. I been taking care of him (feeding, administering meds, etc.). Well, I did pay 330.00 for the tooth extraction and some antibiotics. He has been going here for check ups. However, they insist on charging me for special foods to tube feed him with and extra antibiotics for the hole they put in his neck. I am thinking, this is outrageous they charge me for anything that goes beyond the tooth extraction. The owner of the vet's office is extremely rude and says if he wasn't there to mend his fractured jaw, I would have had to pay 2,000 after the emergency room (his vet under him fractured the jaw - he just owns the joint and assisted in repairing him).

Please, tell me if this just not right.:buttkick:

Poor kitty- hope he heals fast.
Sounds like it is time for a new vet.
Did you have to sign a contract or consent form for the tooth extraction?

:yeahthat: And in good faith, they really should have done the right thing and not even charged you for that! Not saying you're the lawsuit type, but if I were the owner I'd be concerned about litigation and try to "do the right thing" my fixing mistakes my employees had made.

Poor kitty - does he seem to be feeling any better?

I wanna be a SMIB
Please tell which vet this is so that others may avoid. Good luck to your kitty. I feel for him. Stupid vet.

I am so sorry for what your Kitty and you are going through. I hope he/she heals fast and you can put this behind you. Are you able to use ground baby food?

Need a vet

Knowing the stupid laws we have (which do help out the opposing side of the victims). I would probably be sued. Of course, these people to me are just money hungry. I can tell you the owner used to own a vet hospital.

My cat has to suffer. He is getting better each day. He has had a feeding tube in him since 1 1/2 weeks ago. He needs to keep it in him for 6 to 8 weeks. I want to send him to a vet that can take a look at his progress and keep that person as my vet. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats and a foster cat.

An xray was not performed prior to surgery. Asking another vet office, they told me that should have been done because my cat is 12 years old. What idiots. Mistakes do happen but shouldn't they pay for their mistake? I don't think I should have.

I need a vet BAD! Any suggestions? I live in Nanjemoy.

I think it would be nice if you told us which vet hospital you went to.

Sorry to hear about your cat.. Poor thing :frown:
I would just pay for the extraction. Did they make you sign any papers holding you liable for - I forget the term- but basically for any unforseen complications? Did you sign anything at all regarding his care and the surgery? If so, what. Drs. and some vets make you sign a bazillion waivers these days for the simplist of procedures to CTA.

The vet's office is in Indian Head near the base.

I'm not picking on you, so don't take this the wrong way, but why won't you just say the name of the vet? They did something wrong. If it was a pediatrician that did something wrong to your child, I doubt you'd hesitate to tell everyone your experience. I just think it's helpful to tell people about bad experiences. I'm just saying I don't think you should feel guilty about giving out the name.
