Vet?

At the risk of this becoming a thread like SoMdGirl's about an older dog- I am going to ask if any of you pet owners have ever sought a 2nd opinion from a vet other than your regular one....

My 10 yo dog is having multiple issues, and while I really like my vet and would recommend them for regular visits and even a sick animal. Because I think they have been helpful.

It's just that they are getting a bit expensive and we don't seem to be getting any closer to an answer for some recurring problems.

Thanks

Yes, I went on to a second vet and then on to a specialist who determined that both vets were wrong. My Golden Retriever lived for a little over 4 more years after getting her issues properly diagnosed.

Definatly, if you think the vet might be wrong, get a second opinion.

Yes. My little girl was under a year old and got dreadfully violently sick and I thought it was due to a mushroom she licked, nibbled in the yard. I was told that she was having liver failure and would need a shunt to live. I was beside myself with worry, but also ticked off that nobody factored in the mushroom. ICit actually helped me read the blood test results and though certain things were slightly elevated there was nothing pointing to her needing a liver shunt. I went to another vet and got another opinion. She is now 4 years old and has not been sick since the incident.

We just took our 14yr old lab, The Duchess, to PF & saw Dr. Schmidt. She seemed excellent...not overly agressive, understanding, explained everything as many times as I needed. This was our first vet interaction since moving here 3 yrs. ago. I hope my gut & instincts are right on.

I've tried all the vets around Pax and, while some are ok, don't actually trust any of then enough to feel good about recommending one of them.

Dr. Benedict. He saved my Marley.

Edited: IcIt also saved her. Without her advice Marley would have died with in a couple days. I hope I never have to call her like that again. I'm surprise she could make out what I was saying on the phone I was crying so bad.

I sought a second opinion when my dog was a year and a half.
He is 12 now because we got a second opinion..

If in doubt, get a second opinion. If it was you, wouldn't you seek one for yourself...

better at it now... I usually calm down before I have to chat with him :killingme
