... yeah maybe, but as VP he is the President of the Senate and therefor can direct the Senate Majority Leader to "do this - do that" or does he not have that power inside his own party?

No, the President of the Senate cannot direct the majority leader to "do this - do that" even if of the same party, that isn't his function.

As President of the Senate, can the majority party vote him in as Majority Leader also. I think I read some where that the Majority Leader does not have to be a Senator but I'm not sure if that is true, Maybe wishful thinking by the author of the article...

No, the majority and minority leaders are elected by the Senate members of their respective party. They must be Senators.

I think what you might be thinking of is Speaker of the House. The Constitution does not explicitly require the speaker to be an incumbent member of the House of Representatives.

I'm not prepared to like him because I remember well being excited about Mike Pence. And Liz Cheney. And Mitt Romney. And Joe Scarborough back in the day.
