Former fighting dogs get a second chance - Pet health - MSNBC.com
"His back resting comfortably against her chest, Hector nestles his massive canine head into Leslie Nuccio’s shoulder, high-fiving pit bull paws against human hands.
"But as Hector sits up, deep scars stand out on his chest, and his eyes are imploring."
I know there are a lot of dog lovers out there, but to me this is insanity on two levels. First, what responsible authority would even consider releasing pit bulls that have been trained to fight, and have fought, to be put up for adoption, and second, who would adopt such a dog? We just had a woman in our area killed by her pit bull and it had never been trained to fight. She had had it since it was a pup, and one day she went to take the garbage out and the dog attacked and killed her, and attacked her son when he came to help. These dogs have been selectively bred for agressiveness, so they are fundamentally dangerous, and now some animal authority is letting dogs that have been trained to fight go to peoples' homes. That's just insane.
I guess the next level of stupidity will be when one of these dogs attacks it's new owner, or a family member, or a neighbor's kid, and they will, the victims will all rush to file lawsuits against Michael Vick for training these dogs to attack, and the "humane" folks who allowed the dogs to be adopted will never be help accountable.
