Vick Dogs Adopted

Former fighting dogs get a second chance - Pet health - MSNBC.com

"His back resting comfortably against her chest, Hector nestles his massive canine head into Leslie Nuccio’s shoulder, high-fiving pit bull paws against human hands.

"But as Hector sits up, deep scars stand out on his chest, and his eyes are imploring."

I know there are a lot of dog lovers out there, but to me this is insanity on two levels. First, what responsible authority would even consider releasing pit bulls that have been trained to fight, and have fought, to be put up for adoption, and second, who would adopt such a dog? We just had a woman in our area killed by her pit bull and it had never been trained to fight. She had had it since it was a pup, and one day she went to take the garbage out and the dog attacked and killed her, and attacked her son when he came to help. These dogs have been selectively bred for agressiveness, so they are fundamentally dangerous, and now some animal authority is letting dogs that have been trained to fight go to peoples' homes. That's just insane.

I guess the next level of stupidity will be when one of these dogs attacks it's new owner, or a family member, or a neighbor's kid, and they will, the victims will all rush to file lawsuits against Michael Vick for training these dogs to attack, and the "humane" folks who allowed the dogs to be adopted will never be help accountable.

Bruzilla has this one right. No way would I trust one of these animals. In fact I wouldnt trust an ex police dog either.

When dogs are trained to attack what happens one day when the owner says the wrong word.?

I dont have a problem with others who might feel comfortable with one of these dogs, but I wouldnt want it where it might eat my Grandchild.

I know of someone who has adopted one of them also, beautiful dog & very well mannered

Yes, they are very well mannered.... right up until something sets them off and they go on a rampage. I had a neighbor down the street who had two pit bulls, one he ahd raised and an adoped one with clipped ears, meaning it had been a fighter. They too were very well mannered and quiet.

Then one day they got out and killed two cats, our cat, and attacked our 7-month old German Shepherd pup. They almost killed him but my wife went out and started beating on them. When they turned on her, our pup and my wife ran into the house and called the police. The cops and animal control got the dogs, and I went to see them at animal control. They were the nicest dogs you ever saw... tails wagging, lick your hands, friendly as can be. Then we made sure they were both destroyed.

Pit Bulls, especially ones that have been trained to fight, are ticking time bombs.
