PGPD Victim in Capitol Heights Shooting Dies of Injuries

Detectives with our Homicide Unit are now leading the investigation into a shooting that occurred June 6th in Capitol Heights. The victim is 34-year-old Russell Buckner Jr. of Capitol Heights. He died of his injuries on June 16th.

On June 6th, at approximately 10:00 pm, patrol officers were called to the 4600 block of Leroy Gorham Drive for a shooting. Buckner Jr. was discovered outside suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to an area hospital.

Detectives are actively working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive.
Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.
