Nation’s Governors Meet with President, Vice President, Cabinet Officials
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan, chairman of the National Governors Association (NGA), closed the organization’s annual Winter Meeting this morning with business sessions at the White House focused on workforce development and the opioid epidemic.
“As chairman of the National Governors Association, I want to thank President Trump, Vice President Pence, along with Cabinet members and senior staff, for joining us for these serious and productive discussions during our annual Winter Meeting,” said Governor Hogan. “The nation’s governors on both sides of the aisle really do want to work together to find bipartisan, common sense solutions—to put the people’s priorities before partisan interests and to seek common ground for the common good. In spite of all that divides us in America, I still believe there is far more that unites us.”
Over the course of the summit, Governor Hogan highlighted his year-long national initiative, “Infrastructure: Foundation for Success,” which promotes best practices and innovative solutions to America’s infrastructure crisis. Read a summary of the first two days of the summit here.
Sunday’s plenary sessions included a discussion of states’ resiliency measures in response to natural disasters and an exchange of governors’ strategies to meet emerging workforce needs.
Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services briefed governors on the federal response to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Governor Hogan delivered remarks at an event hosted by South Korean Ambassador Lee Soo-hyuck and Mrs. Lee at their residence in Washington, DC. The governors received a special video welcome from South Korean President Moon Jae-In, and were joined by representatives from LG, Hyundai Motor Group, Samsung, and other leaders from Korea’s private sector.
Governor Hogan was interviewed by actor Chris Evans for his upcoming current events project, “A Starting Point.” Slated to debut this spring, the project aims to promote respectful discourse and civic engagement.
