ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement after the Transportation Planning Board announced that the Traffic Relief Plan will be considered next week at its July 21 meeting

“Momentum is growing for our bipartisan interstate plan to fix the American Legion Bridge and relieve traffic congestion on the Capital Beltway. This multimodal project will address one of the worst traffic bottlenecks in the country, add more transit services as well as bike and pedestrian paths, and free up funding to advance projects across the state.

“Despite all this, a tiny group of out-of-touch Montgomery County politicians continue to try and sabotage the project, catering to pro-traffic activists at the expense of the overwhelming majority of residents who want something done about the traffic and who support our plan. Their actions threaten to derail the new American Legion Bridge, the whole plan, and critical projects throughout the region.

“Our forward-thinking vision for infrastructure is why Maryland is the nation’s most improved state for business, and we look forward to making more progress on this project in the coming weeks.”

Go Rams!
Better yet - stop building so many houses and buildings that will stay vacant for years to come because owners are money-hungry and up the rent every so often.

That, and people need to stop procreating so much and having more kids than an elementary school itself.

I'd really like to see THAT legislation get passed.

The mess at the American Legion bridge has been there for decades. Unless I am mistaken - because I haven't been there in a while - part of the problem is the number of lanes.

The other is not so much the fault of Maryland - but the development in VIRGINIA all around Northern Virginia - the Beltway in Virginia is about half of what it is in Maryland but it is always much worse.

What astonishes me is that they propose stupid, stupid things that make people feel good - like bike and pedestrian paths which will do NOTHING to relieve congestion over in that area. For one thing - Washington DC is nexus for traffic coming down the coast - 95 on the East Coast side - 270 and the Beltway on the west. A lot of traffic is GOING THROUGH Washington, because there's no other way. There's no other highway.

Bike and pedestrian paths. Yep. For all the people WALKING from Pittsburgh to Richmond and points south. Bike paths for all the Washington federal workers making that 12-15 mile trip through the insane traffic of DC.
