When a child is charged as an adult, they have committed a crime worthy of their being charged as an adult.
These are not petty crimes . These are not the crimes committed by your usual child who made a mistake.
These are crime committed by kids who have been committing crimes as a way of life.
Gang bangers , kids with guns, stealing cars, young felons who will be lifetime criminals.

One other thing---a 14 year old with a gun can kill you just as dead as a 40 year old.
