They tax you the 1st year hoping by yr 4 you forget since you've lived with the extra costs.

Kind of like Moore in MD. Hit you early then the last yr nothing. Once reelected you get hit again.

I'm having more than a little schaedenfreude but then I remember that a lot of the people hit hardest by these new taxes will be the ones who didn't vote for her. The beltway elites and Richmond lawyers who did vote her - eh, they can afford it. Many of them will get a cut of it in grants and "exploratory committees" and other palm greasing/money laundering/treasury looting.

But normal everyday dipshit Democrats - ha ****ing ha ha ha. Not that it will stop them from continuing to mindlessly vote for Democrats - they all have battered wife syndrome. And I'd say I hope people in other states are watching this, but Democrats always vote for Democrats and they don't watch news or have any legitimate idea of what's going on in the world. They think Donald Trump is worse than Hitler, so...you know...we're not dealing with the cream of the intellectual crop here.

So, sorry for your luck, Virginia. You'll never get out from under the Democrats now because you've let them have full control of the state and they will make sure they keep it.

New income tax brackets?

HB 188 by Del. Kelly Convirs-Fowler, D-Virginia Beach, would create a new tax bracket for those making $1 million or more — to be taxed at 10%. Currently, all income above $17,000 is taxed at 5.75%. Sen. Mamie Locke, D-Hampton, has a budget amendment to accomplish the same thing.

HB 979 by Del. Vivian Watts, D-Fairfax County, would create two new tax brackets. Those with incomes from $600,000 to $1 million would be taxed at 8%, and incomes of more than $1 million would be taxed at 10% (as in the Convirs-Fowler bill).

The large employer tax will be interesting to watch. How many small businesses will adapt to stay under the 50 threshold?

The real question is: why do Dems think a whole slew of new taxes are needed? Is there any waste in government that might be eliminated, unnecessary spending?

I guess it depends on how hefty said tax is, and also whether it only counts full-time employees.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a good amount of small business job opportunities there, especially manual labor start drying up because they’re hitting the ceiling of available employees before getting railed with taxes.

Start another company, split the work.

They're going after the gig economy. I mean, seriously, dog walkers??? They don't want a single transaction to ever take place that they don't get a cut of.

And you better believe Democrat Governors and legislators are all paying rapt attention to how this goes over. Just like they were paying attention during covid to see how we'd react to lockdowns and silly bullshit restrictions.

:roflmao: Now I know you're being sarcastic.
Yes and no. Raising taxes should be the last resort, not the first.

Wonder how Dems will react to things like a new dog care taxes, gym taxes, ordering food taxes, dry cleaning tax?

They have no idea any of this is going on. If they were paying even the slightest bit of attention they wouldn't have elected Spanberger or any other Democrat in the first place. If they do notice things are more expensive they'll blame Donald Trump.

What's funny is that it seems to me those things are more heavily populated by liberals.

Hell, Spanberger could start lining up the children of Democrat voters and shooting them on national TV, and Democrats would STILL support her. Democrats vote for Democrats, no matter what. They don't care what they did or what they're going to do, they don't even need to know their name, they vote for the Democrat.

Wondering how Md State Delegate Brian Ceosby is going to enjoy all these new taxes after he helped increase computer taxes in Maryland and is now moving his computer company to Virginia

well, they did elect Jay Jones(D) for Attorney General, after he said he wanted to put two bullets into Todd Gilbert (R) former VA House Speaker

I'll bet more than half the people who voted for Jones didn't even know who he was or anything about him. They saw that D and were like:
