Article IV, section 3 of the Constitution.
So you would need Maryland's consent, Virginia's consent, and the consent of Congress. In other words, fat chance.

I disagree..

It covers the founding of a NEW state.. we wouldn't be founding a new state, nor would we be attaching parts of two states to making a new state, we would be moving our county from a current state, to another current state.

We can't facture a state or a couple of states to form a new state, is says nothing about counties seceding and joining other states.

It would appear that we are not alone! This snippet from a wiki covering WVA history:

In recent years, there has been serious talk about the possibility of certain counties in the Eastern Panhandle rejoining the Commonwealth of Virginia. Frustrated by bad economic conditions and what they perceive to be neglect from the Charleston government, this movement has gained at least some momentum. In 2011, West Virginia state delegate Larry Kump sponsored legislation to allow Morgan, Berkeley, and Jefferson counties to rejoin Virginia by popular vote.

Probably a matter of semantics but I would say that if a state is changed in geographic composition by adding new territory from an existing state then that state would be NEW even if it carried the same/previous name. Combing parts of multiple states would, in my opinion, require those states to each agree to this combining and also need the consent of Congress as outlined in the Constitution.

Throwing the deuces
2015 (maybe sooner)... We're moving to Tennessee. We are so over Maryland at this point.

Apparent change of plans. After 10 years of saying we want to move to Tennessee, my husband has decided that maybe Coeur d' Alene, ID (just outside of Spokane, WA) might be a better area to move. Definitely has nice scenery, housing prices are low and you get a lot of acreage with the homes. Need to investigate this area more but I do know that instead of dealing with black bears in TN, we'd be dealing with Grizzly bears, which I've heard are more aggressive. Yikes!

Pretty much all the state South of Waldorf and Upper Marlboro...ask Annapolis if they would like to join us. We could become St Maryland County VA.

Leave northern Calvert Co. out of it. I made a choice not to live in a
right-to-work state when I moved here.

Well obviously somebody has to still be a member of the ever-dwindling union rolls. :howdy:

Private sector unions are down to what?...7% of the workforce? :killingme

Won't speak for the others but my union is growing.

Perhaps so, but overall the numbers are still good and with no change in trend in sight.

But the figures announced by the bureau point to grave problems for the future of organized labor. The portion of private sector workers in unions fell to just 6.6 percent last year, from 6.9 percent in 2011, causing some labor specialists to question whether private sector unions were sinking toward irrelevance.

Smile!
Are there rules for counties being members of a contiguous state?

The southern part of the eastern shore is Virginia, not Maryland, even though it's not attached in any way to Virginia. Southern Maryland is much closer! How did those lucky SOBs get to be part of Virginia anyway?

Actually, the idiots in this thread are the ones that believe something so stupid could ever take place. Or even want it to.....

Idiots.....

But of course, you would be doing the rest of us a HUGE favor by leaving. So I'll say it again. Please don't wait, pack up and roll out now. The sooner, the better.

Western Idaho, and Eastern Washington are looking at doing the same.. The population centers don't have the agricultural needs at heart when they vote..

Farmers are working 12 hour days 7 days a week to fund innercity projects that they will NEVER benefit from. Yep, that there is an idiot...

WE are the government, to say WE can't do something if we feel we are being wronged is the height of ignorance.

But being a liberal, you probably feel, like being a good victim, we should just sit down, shut up, and let it happen. The Liberal leaders insist we be sheeple, and being good little liberals, you're going to do just that!

OK, here's the deal. I do hereby elect you and Bad Girl to head this thing up and get it on the ballot so everyone involved can vote on it. I'm in.. I may be an idiot but maybe I'll be a Virginia idiot and not a MOM follower that is being taxed to death. I have probably lived in Maryland longer than anyone on here but something has to be done. No, moving is not an option.

I tell you what.....you go ahead and get this stupid idea of yours in the works. Since you believe you can do this, then I would like for you to hold your breath until its done. I have a feeling that will get you out of this state faster then some ridiculous moving of counties.

And you wonder why people think folks like you are crazy wing nuts.

In My Opinion
Won't speak for the others but my union is growing.

That actually makes sense that a union would be growing in size in Maryland.

Unions are basically for the week minded under achiever that wants maximum return on minimum effort.
Based on the welfare numbers in this state, it would also seem that what the majority of residents here want is also maximum return for minimum effort.

As far as wanting everyone to just pack up and leave if they are not happy here (I know it was not Sparx that said this but Im too lazy to double quote)
You take all the people that want to leave, and then they do leave, there will not be enough workers left to support the lazy spoon fed vermin that votes democrat.
