Does anyone participate in these? Like, Leonardtown has virtual concerts, workshops, etc, that you view via Facebook or some other app.

I'm just curious how popular these things are.

I watched my hometowns christmas lightup celebration last Dec 1st, it was pretty neat. I was 6 hrs away and got to see it and hear the festivities.

Well, just every church service for the last four months. And every work meeting.

I'm kinda wondering how the 2020 River Concert Series will go virtual, like they've promised. Sure won't be like last year.

Uh No. What's the point? Being physically present is key. Else it's watching youtube videos on the subject. This virtual video sh-t is BS!

That's what I think as well. Like the virtual concerts the celebritards are putting online - how is that different than watching one of their YouTube vids?

But they're all doing it, from the rich and famous to local community orgs. I was just curious if there's an audience for it.

It really isn't new, except using the term "virtual". We have been watching live video sports since the 60's. Baseball, basketball, football, all of their games are broadcast live. Also the network news broadcasts, etc., shown live. It's not "virtual". It's real. Enough with the "virtual" labeling.

No, I think the virtual label makes sense. The point is not that the event is virtual, as much as your presence is virtual. They are real time events that are attended virtually. That does make them a bit different.

But I do think we have a ways to go yet. They are very much one way events, and aside from reading the chat window, the performer has no crowd interaction.

I watch the virtual events that Bobby McKey's has on their FB site.

Any of the virtual events I've tried are always marred by lags, freezes and scrambled video, I don't bother anymore.
Sure. When the redskins played their virtual games that were virtually projected on my TV, PC, and/or cell phone I would actively participate by letting them know how stupid they were playing. Sometimes I would question the marital status of their parents.
Anything projected live, IS live, not virtual. Virtual implies not real, just simulated.

Virtual refers to our attendance, not to the event. I think most people are well aware of the difference.

Yes, we are. When I am on a virtual conference call, we all have input and participation. Just watching an event without being allowed to participate is not virtual. It's television.
