Vista + XP

Can someone tell me if it is a good idea to run vista on a different partition? I've read things about vista screwing things up with xp. I'd like to run both. That being said, if theres no problem, can someone recommend a good partitioning tool? thanks.

The best partitioning tool I have found runs on Linux. :lmao:

I like the animated desktops in the ultimate vista edition, too bad I would never pay that much just to get that. The Aero window thing has already lost its novelty. I hate Vista so far since my wireless never seems to reconnect, I have to reboot the damn laptop.

Great reason to select an OS or a President.

Ya know MS keeps trying to dress up Windows ....... hence the areo interface

the 1st thing I do on a fresh XP install and right click the desktop, bring up properties and revert back to the Windows Classic look of Win2k - and dump the Fisher Price Default Desktop .......... then go in the system prperties and turn off all the other animation crap.

I bought another hard drive
swapped it with my original
then, after Vista was installed and loaded on the new hhd,I reinstalled the original
So now 2 hhds. When I turn on the computer it asks 'Which Windows?'

Other posters are right about it being slow. You need RAM. 2gig minium.
Also good points about turning off the eye candy, but the 'Indexing' feature is the real hog.

just got a new dell w/ vista already installed. any way to revert back to XP?

If it were possible, you'd have to have a licensed copy of XP handy to install. I say "possible", because most of the new systems sold with Vista are not backward compliant with XP. Go to Dell's site, look up your model and see if they sell it with XP or Vista. If not, go to the support page and see if there are drivers for XP for your model. If no drivers, XP is not supported on that hardware.

I'm not saying yes or no, but somewhere I seem to remember reading that dual partitions on a Vista based PC was not a good idea. Can't remember where I saw that, what the reason was, or if I'm even remembering it correctly.

The best method for testing an operating system is to use virtualization software, such as VMWare or VirtualPC. By doing this you can keep your default installation, while running the "guest" operating system. I currently run two Windows 2003 Enterprise Servers within my XP installation on my laptop.

I am having the same problem. It is so annoying, I thought it was something I was doing wrong.
