Vitamins/Supplements for Women

Be about it
I take a multivitamin daily, but should I be taking additional supplements? Do ya'll? The points of view are so mixed on the issue of taking additional iron, etc… I need to do some research because I know that too much of anything isn't good, but I also want to make sure that I'm getting what I should get to maximize my health.

I take a multivitamin, plus E, for my heart and immunity, C for immunity, and cranberry capsules for bladder health. Plus I chew some Tums everyday for the calcium. Tums are a good cheap source of calcium! Happy pill popping! :lmao:

Geesh! LOL. I only take the Centrum Women's vitamin. I am interested in the E vitamin but don't know enough about it all to do it.

I recommend getting some blood drawn and tested before supplementing like this. You may find out some interesting things.
Now you can always experiment, but why waste money?

Funny, story. My wife popped tums like tic tacs during her pregnancy with our daughter. She swears my little girls bones are as hard as titanium! :lmao:

I take One a Day for Women with Calcium, Fish Oil and Flax Seed (Omega-3 Fatty Acids, etc), and Fiber.

Be careful with Iron - it'll wreak havok with your potty routine. :dead: If you eat enough iron-rich foods, you should be okay.

If you have history of UTIs and Bladder issues, Cranberry extract is okay - otherwise, you'll have expensive pee.

I also like energy drinks with green tea (antioxidant) and the like and so on.

But like Big Fatty posted, it's best to have bloodwork done to know what you're dealing with.

I take a Centrum 2-3 times a week, not regularly. I really don't like ingesting stuff I don't have to. Do all these supplements really do anything for the body?

Good question. No, supplements don't do crap unless the body needs them. Most of the excess you deposit in the toilet along with the $ spent on them. Some supplements carry risks to them too.

With that said, most physicians recommend a multivitamin. It's a fairly inexpensive way to get what you need, rather than miss out on what your body may lack.

VV, you are correct. Most physicians do make this recommendation and so do I.
I just wish folks would take some time to think about what they are buying and why they are buying it. The supplement industry is a billion $ conglomerate and they feed off of people who blindly spend their money.
Even supplements that have been proven to work can be crap. Not every mulit-vit/min is worth ingesting.

yeah yeah
I take a One a day Womens, plus I take D (as it has been showing signs of helping reduce the risk of breast cancer in those prone to it), I also take a b complex, plus folic acid.

This product is pretty new. According to the bottle it is a multi-vitamin as well as provides support for the immune system, digestive system and helps with joint health.

I ordered a bottle just to see if it supports ANY of those claims, we'll see!!! :yay:

I take the cranberry supplement because I only have one kidney and if I can avoid a bladder infection I'm going to try everything I can to do it! I did a health screen via Dr. Oz from Oprah's show, it's was called Real Age something, anyway, it suggested that I add E to my regimen to support my cardiovascular system since there is heart disease in my family. They didn't have to suggest it twice! :lmao:

Could you make a few recommendations for multi-vitamins?

Genuine Health (company), Multi+ (product)- I have been using this for a while and had my blood tested, pretty good profile

Greens+ is good.

Expensive but "xelr8" is the real deal. Strict manufacturing processes and good research and development.

Shaklee and Young Living also put some great stuff out.
