OK. My truck finally started exhibiting the "typical" problems found with my motor plant, the 6.0 Ford Diesel. Kicker is, it's 5 days out of warranty, and Ford is refusing to honorit even though this problem is one that I've been fighting for years. Unless I can come up with documentation to prove it, I don't even have a fight in this. I'm looking.

$2100 to fix it. I have zero funds available to pay for this out of pocket.

If I can't talk Ford into fixing it under warranty, I'll be in a new Chevy by next week. I can be in a new Chevy for the same payment as I currently have on my 5 year old Ford.

I need a vehicle with seating for a minimum of 6, room for a mastiff and luggage.

The Suburban could work, it be a tight fit any time we had to bring the dog anywhere, and with luggage, we'd prolly have to stack some on the roof, or on a rear bumper carrier. No diesel available in the Suburban.

The New 2500 HD Crew Cab Diesel will be about the same price as a loaded Suburban, and with the bed, and a cap on the bed, it'd be convenient, AND get better fuel mileage than the gas motors in the Suburban. So fuel COSTS would be about the same. dog and luggage go in the back, and everyone rides fairly comfy...I think.

AM I missing anything in my analysis? Anybody travel with 6 in a crew cab?

Anything else I need to consider besides getting rid of the dog. I tried that already, and still do repeatedly. It ain't happenin. Can't get rid of the family either. I'm too attached at this point.

Thoughts, comments? Peanut gallery, please stand down.

Well, my first question is: If you can take out a loan for a new Chevy, why can't you take out a small loan to have the 6.0 repaired/replaced?

I'm still making payments on MY truck. No way in hell I'm taking out a loan to make repairs for something that they should have fixed years ago, but miraculously couldn't find the problem until after the warranty ran out.

I have enough paid ahead on the truck, and the trade in value is such that I can move into an equally equipped, brand new Chevy, for the same payments I'm making now. I was actually eyeing up an '06 F250 on the lot of the dealership where my truck is now...until they gave me the bit of news about the warranties.

Have you considered one of these?

All-New 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Also, any dealership is going to rip you off with a trade in "bargain" to get you into a new car and a new loan.

Get the truck fixed and sell it. Take out a bank loan and pay off the rest.

I thought you were smarter than that. :frown:

I am smarter than you give me credit for. No bank loan necessary. I'm just not willing to pay for repairs that should have been made years ago but miraculously the problem wasn't able to be found by the dealer until after the warranty ran out.

Due to having the 6.0 Diesel motor in my truck. I'll never be able to sell it.

Also, I looked at the Sequioa ON suday at the auto show, and it's not big enough. A full size van would be about perfect, but g/f ain't havin' it. And truthfully, I need a p/u bed anyway.

You're not the first one who's had this problem with Ford. A friend of mine had a Ford diesel truck and got the same run around as you - can't find the problem, little fixes that did nothing, etc. Then the warranty ran out, the truck died on a long trip in the middle of nowhere in Tennessee, and he went through hell and back with them.

Not for me. No way would I sign up for that kind of a payment.

How many miles a year?

15000 or less, would leasing be an option?

I had a Crew Cab chvy with a family of six and were much more comfortable in it than the Lumina Mini-Van we had prior. Mini van you can fit the people in, but then you have no room for luggage, groceries etc..

I think the latest is the King Cab? Full size seats and cabin both front and back, four full sized doors.

Think as far as comfort size and room you'll be more than happy, and it's a LOT more practical than an SUV.. for example.. Would you put garbage inside an SUV? But I bet you'd have no problem putting it in the bed of a pick up..

Id agree with what you stated in the original post....the crew cab (or whatever term GM uses) witht he DUramax would be the way to go, except Id probably go GMC simply because i think the front end is better looking. The six oh Powerstroke definitely had issues, but I miss my ole 7.3 PS.

I miss my 7.3 also. Couldn't find one with an ext-cab though. The 6.0 came about, was pretty, only had 20K and deal was good. Was a good truck until the warranty ran out.

I've already talked to a couple of dealers. Will be gon out on Saturday to look at a GMC and have them try to find me the one I'm looking for. Unless something else unexpected comes about, I'll be in a new Crew Cab, long bed Duramax by next week. :yay:

whats the problem with your 6 ohhhhh, ?

Cracked EGR/oil coolers. and they STILL cant seem to make it leak fuel like I can. Also, the front end rattles badly, but only when I drive it. And the rear main seal is leaking, again.
