Vommiting Issue

I am concerned my 2 year old daughter might be having an allergic reaction or possibly have acid reflux or something else I dont know what though.

Over the past year or so she has woken up in the middle of the night throwing up roughly 7 or so times. She basically throws up until everything is out of her tummy and then goes to back to sleep. No fever or anything else to go along w/ it.

The confusion is she is getting sick on things she eats all the time and normally doesnt have an issue with.

Anyone have thoughts? Somethign similar w/ their child?

One of my friends went through something similiar with her daughter, but she was older - kindergarten age. She wound up keeping a food diary of what her kid ate each day and her symptoms when she was sick. The doctor thought it was a food allergy and the food diary was to help trace the cause. But her girl wound up being sick so much one night that she became really dehydrated and they took her up to Childrens. Turned out they tied it to migraines and have her on anti-migrane meds and she hasn't vomited since. I would have never thought migraines in a child that age, but the meds are working.

However, why don't you start with a food diary?

thats the second NP in a row that did the same thing!

all she was worried about was making sure i was eating enough fruits and veggies...

That is what our NP suggested as well.

I thought it might be a acid reflux thing because she is vommiting things that she eats all the time and never gets sick on during the day. Only the evening. I thought maybe laying down to sleep w/ all that food in her belly might make her ill.

I did talk to our NP and since it only happened once every month or so thought it could be just a stomach bug. We do have 4 kids in school so that is what I thought as well.

Loving I texted my friend and she said it was called cyclic vomiting syndrome. I don't know if this even helps you out at all, but I guess it's something to rule out. :huggy:

Not so much getting worse. Just happens every once in a while (maybe once every month or two) She doesnt seem to be in pain, run a fever, etc... just throws up.

I think I will have her run some blood test and she what she comes up w/ .

Beat me to it...but the descriptions on the mayo clinic site seem to match
From the Mayo Clinic
Episodes in children generally last only a day or two, but adults can have symptoms for almost a week. Adults tend to have about four episodes a year, while children may have 10 or more. Episodes typically begin late at night or early in the morning.

I agree that food diary is a great idea to start with for Celiacs, migraines and allergies.
I have had diagnosed migraines since I was 8... probably had them before that though. And when I was little I dont know that I could have told you that I had a headache either - just that I didn't feel well and then came the vomiting. Best wishes to your little one.

I know a fantastic NP, and her husband has Lyme. Her husband also has had major heart surgery (ASD) so major heart damage was also a major concern. He reports that he is more than happy she exhausted every option before just chalking it up to Lyme since Lyme symptoms can mimic many other conditions.

Being "only" a NP is fine with him since she has over 9 years of formal education, over 15 years in the medical field with some of the best institutions in the country (Georgetown, UMMS, Children's), currently is or has been a clinical instructor at all of them as well as other fine institutions and he doesn't need surgery which is the only thing a NP can't do that a Doctor can.

Lovin- hope your little one feels better!

Thanks! She is on the case and thinks we might need some extra testing and possibly an xray

I forgot to mention something else that you may want to be on the lookout for... MSG - monosodium glutamate. That can cause adverse or allergy reactions and/or trigger migraine type symptoms. It is an additive in so many foods these days that you have to read ingredients closely. It can be in anything from potato chips to the frozen "just add chicken" type meals. Its not just the Chinese food restaurants that use this stuff any more!
