Anyone know of a semi local (St Mary's or Calvert) where I can find one of these types of onion?

You sure you're not thinking of Vidalia onions? Those are big, sweet onions.

They might be able to help you. They had ingredients in there that I have not found anywhere here. I could soooo go broke in that store!! My son actually made me leave because, "Once you start, you won't stop." lol

I've gotten Walla Wallas before, but I think it is dependent on the time of year, I can't remember when the time of year was.

I was going to do something similar to a blooming onion. Or onion rings. Walla Wallas make amazing onion rings!

Walla Walla has a .org website. Says they are typically available thru the end of August.

Walla Walla Sweet Onions are available Mid-June through late August

And not that it helps you now, but there are places selling what they say are Walla onion sets to grow your own (eBay is full of them). However, Walla Wallas are like Vidailias, if they aren't grown in that region, they aren't the same and can't be called that. Climate, soil conditions, etc....

Ugh. Wonder how well they ship...

I usually have my brother ship me some (from Washington state) in mid June to early July. I didn't this year. The crop came in late so you may still be in luck. He usually individually wraps them in bubble wrap and they ship just fine.

FYI, the Walla Walla Sweets are a bit larger than the Vidalia (larger than a softball), and a bit sweeter. They are so packed with moisture the "rings" get really thick and are perfect for making onion fries. Can't make onion rings easily because they are so big.
