wallpaper removal help

I have a room that has wallpaper that is resisting my attempts at removal. It was probably put on bare drywall with no prep. I would like to hire someone to take it off. If anyone knows someone who does this (or if you have a sure fire way of removal), please let me know.
Thanks!
Joe

Believe it or not...add liquid fabric softner to water 1:3. Then sponge it over the wallpaper to get it damp...wait a few minutes and it will peel right off :yay:

I have a wallpaper steamer that works very well but is a little slow.

:yeahthat:

If you get it pretty wet and let it sit for a minute it will come right off in sheets whatever you do, do not use the wallpaper scorer thing as it will make your life hell. dont worry about some of the drywall paper coming off here or there.. You can just reskim it quick and then prime and paint.

Use liquid DIF wallpaper remover. I just removed wallpaper from my whole kitchen and used this stuff. Works great! I messed up at first and got the gel DIF and that didn't work. So make sure you get the liquid.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas! This is old, old wallpaper that appears to have been put on dry wall without any prep of any kind! It is very thin paper. I tried, Dif and Chomp. I have gotten some paper off, with much elbow grease and consternation. Had to use a lot each product. My wife on one area with Chomp and I in another with Dif. They both seem to work to a degree, but very, very slow and backbreaking. I am going to try the fabric softener idea. Hot water, or doesn't it matter? Any particular brand? I am feeling very light headed from breathing in the Dif all day...!

Thanks again, I appreciate all the help!

Another homemade remedy I've used to remove wallpaper is just a mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. You spray and saturate an area at a time, wait a few minutes and then it just peels right off. If you have any pampered chef stoneware scrapers (they are awesome!) if you use that to scrape off the wallpaper it will come off very easy without damaging the drywall. Sometimes you need to go back later with a final mist of vinegar water and a cleaning rag to get all of the wallpaper glue off the wall because it will still look and feel a little tacky from the glue.

Not sure of the vinegar to water dilution though. I don't like the smell of vinegar so I think I only used 1 part vinegar to maybe 5 parts water in a spray bottle of warm water.

Hope it helps! Get a few friends to help out and it should go pretty quick!

Very Hot water and some old rags... Holding the wet hot rag on the walpaper for about 20-30 seconds should help loosen it up wet the whole section down with the hot water and it should come up.

Are you using a wallpaper scorer?? I tried to remove wallpaper in an old house, and the wall paper was like a latex, it was somewhat waterproof, so without scoring it, the glue release chemical couldn't penetrate the paper to work.. I used the scorer, did it again, and the paper came right off.

to score or not to score

Well, I have heard both sides of the scoring issue. Some for and some against. I tried both. No difference, at least on this wallpaper. This wallpaper has completely become one with the drywall! We are getting it to come off, but no matter what we have used so far, it is not coming off easily!!

Tear off what you can.. smooth the edges with drywall compound, sand prime and paint.

I've got a great idea....

Stop trying to get the wall paper off. Put up a new layer of drywall over the old. Your room my seem a little smaller though.

Just an idea.
