Wally White cat has moved on to his final home.
He crossed over and is at the Rainbow Bridge.....
He left this world on his own terms Friday afternoon, while I was in Boston attending the funeral of a family member.
I recieved the phone call from his sitter at 5pm, he had died on his own, in his bed, apparently in his sleep.
I asked that she put Wally in the fridge and I would take him in to the vet Monday for an necropsy ( animal autopsy).
I called Bailydog Monday evening and believe me, it was one of the hardest calls I have ever made.
We decided not to post anything until we knew the necropsy results.
Today I got the results and called Bailydog and Dawn.
I PMed Mousebaby, but have not heard from her.
Mouse, I am sorry, I cant wait any longer to post this.
Wally was alway small, always little. I would comment that he was not gaining weight like a normal kitten, and we wondered why his momma left him alone.
The results of the necropsy showed a few things...he had an infection in his GI tract and that his gut ( whole lower intestines) were abnormally small.
He was not absorbing all the good stuff in his food, and as a result, he never grew like a normal kitten.
He eventually lost out..growing in size, but not putting on weight...and he developed an infection and died.
My vet reassures me I did nothing wrong, and there was nothing we could have done to change the outcome.
I blame myself for letting him dowm, but again, my vet said we did all we could have for him.
There was no way to know that his digestive system was abnormal.
She had seem him a few weeks ago for his xrays and his neutering and tail removal. He was Felv and FIV negative, he had recieved all his shots and was due for his rabies this week. He was to ride with me to go to his new momma November 6th.
He was the neatest kitten I have had the honor to care for.
He loved life and never complained about his leg, or trips to the vet or his stumpy tail.
Many of you here became a part of his life and cheered him on and fell in love with him through his stories and photos.
Doing animal rescue is hard...we dont always win...we get animals from places and situations we know nothing about, and we do the best we can. Many make it, and many do not.
Wally's past was and will be a mystery...
But because of Dawn, he was saved...and I did my best to help him grow up and go to his new momma, Baily.
He touched a lot of us for no other reason than he was a survivor and he was so cute!!!
I still have babies here..all healthy.
Four kittens, 5 weeks old, 2 larger ones, Andy and Marly, and 2 baby squirrels that came in last night (6 weeks old).
But I loved Wally the best...he had a personality that was rare...and he was a 100% dedicated shoulder kitty!!!!
He was the king of his tiny world when riding so high up and would snuggle close to my ear and purr!!!
He will be missed....a lot....and not only by me and his mommy, Baily..but by all of his friends here.
Thank you Wally for being a part of my life, and in the lives of so many other neat people here in SOMD.
