The reviews online for the wooden swing sets are good (4 out of 5 stars) but the people also say the wood in very soft, splits easy and sets are difficult to assemble. I have a 4 and 1 year old that I want to purchase a swing set for.

I would like to know from people that have purchased a wooden swing set from Walmart if you would recommend it or would you suggest buying something else?

I know Amish is the way to go but I can not afford that unfortunately.

I guess you answered your own question. All the ones from, Wally. Kmart, Toys r us are all the same..
Cheap import items..

Go to lowes, home depot...they have kits and you can build your own.

Bj's and Costco do as well and normally around this time they go on sale.

I thought Lowes sold the kits, you buy the lumber and put it together..

Eazypeazy...

Basically you can build a swing set with 5 4X4's

You can bet the WalMart quality won't be.

Every piece of furniture I have ever purchased from Walmart has been a cheap piece of crap. I personally would not trust my children on a swingset or something from there! Do like others say, hit up Lowe's, buy some lumber and do it yourself (and then come build one for me, haha)!

I dont think Im handy enough to build my own and I know my husband cant. I'll just have to suck it up and pay more for a better quality.

Here is what you do...

Buy the cheap one...with the money you save, buy insurance on the kids. When the set collpases and they break their necks, collect the insurance. With that money, hire a lawyer and sue the crap out of Wally World...

By the way - the above was just a joke...

buy the walmart one. EVen the cheapest toys have to go through ridiculous safety screening..they will be fine. It's not like you are buying them a parachute or a medical device. Likely they will lose interest quickly anyway..and you wouldnt have wasted money. I'd buy the cheap one :yay:

In My Opinion
If put together correctly, the wooden sets will outlast the metal ones.
My nephew and I built one for his daughter a few years back, we just started with one that had a platform for a slide and a couple swings. had a great time putting it up.
But we couldnt stop.
so we added on,, and on..
Now he has the two younguns,
The set has two covered towers with slides, a closed in fort type thing with tables and chairs in it that you climb a rope ladder to get up in and another slide to come down in, two sets of swings that connect it all.
Under the tower is a sand box. off to one side there is an open deck that goes out to a trampoline. There is even a small garage at the end for them to park the little barbie cars in.
We used plans for the first part, beer and imagination for the rest of it.

Yep...we got ours from BJ's around 2007 and it is still holding up just fine.

Same here! It's still standing strong in my backyard.

The one from BJ's have manual instruction that your husband and you can follow to put them together. I highly recommend purchasing from BJ's.

A kid's dream swingset! :yay: These sets get a LOT of use, so are totally worth the investment. The Things had one when they were younger. We got the kit & wood from Home Depot and their dad, a BIL & brother all put it together. Later, we added a separate, but close by sandbox area which the kids used the heck out of!
