Poet Jericho Brown, an American Book Award Winner, will read from his work, which has been described as “an attempt to fight back against hate in its many guises.” Brown is an associate professor and the director of the Creative Writing Program at Emory University in Atlanta. 2019 One Maryland One Book Author Tour with Mona Hanna-Attisha. 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Nov. 4. CSM will host the Maryland Humanities One Maryland One Book tour with author Mona Hanna-Attisha, who will speak and sign copies of her book “What the Eyes Don’t See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City.” Selected as the focus of this year’s One Maryland One Book discussions, a program of Maryland Humanities, the book chronicles Dr. Hanna-Attisha’s efforts to uncover the contamination of Flint, Michigan’s drinking water. CSM Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery Artist Lecture: Lisa Elmaleh. 3 p.m., Nov. 5. Photographer Lisa Elmaleh will present a talk about her exhibit “the Lightness and the Dark,” which will be on display at the college’s Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery through Dec. 12. The exhibit is a documentation of Elmaleh’s life in a cabin with no running water in the rural outskirts of Paw Paw, West Virginia, where she moved in 2014 to learn how to live more deliberately. A reception will follow the talk. “It is more than I expected,” Kaylee O’Gorman said of dual enrollment. The Calvert High School senior credits CSM professors for taking the experience above expectations. “They are given more freedom in how they run their classes than high school teachers and because of that I know I am getting a deeper experience.”
