Hebrews 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And God permitting, we will do so.
4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. 7 Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. 8 But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.
9 Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. 10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Ok, this is from the commentary, chapter 5.
Since you have become dull of hearing: This explains why the writer didn’t go deeper into the topic of Melchizedek right away. He wanted to address some critical basics before going on to more intricate topics, but their spiritual condition made it hard to explain.
You ought to be teachers: It wasn’t that these were unique people who should hold a unique role of teaching. Instead, they ought to be teachers in the sense that every Christian should be a teacher.
This section goes on to chapter 6.Elementary principles: This has the idea of “rudiments” or “ABCs.” They are basic building blocks that are necessary, but must be built upon — otherwise has only a foundation and no structure.
Not laying again the foundation: These elementary principles are given in three pairs. Repentance and faith go together. Baptisms and laying on of hands go together. Resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment are paired together.
For it is impossible: The word impossible is put in a position of emphasis. The writer to the Hebrews does not say this is merely difficult, but that it is without possibility.
Yeah.... These paragraphs are a bit difficult to understand for some. The long and the short of it is.... be careful not to let someone talk you out of your love for Jesus. Satan was an angel. God loves humans more than He loves angels. Satan got jealous. God and Satan got into it over humans.... like in the Book of Job. God said a human who really loves Him will still love Him no matter what. Satan took away everything and everyone Job loved.... and Job stayed true to God.
It's the same with us. Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, Satan is going to try to talk us out of it. He doesn't want Jesus to get one more follower if he can stop them.
The problem is, Jesus is just too spectacular, and humans these days are just not used to someone who is so kind and generous. Satan whispers "Oh you don't buy all that "'love' crap", do you? and we question our faith.
I've seen it written, in these forums, that humans have given up on Jesus because of the way a church ran things.
I don't know if I could be a priest in a parish where the children were being molested. I think it would shake my faith.
I know I can't be in a Baptist Church that preaches politics instead of Scripture. The problem is... If I were to tell you "They are twisting the truth" would you even listen?
We're all willing to say AI is capable of destruction of the truth. Yet AI has been around since Job... in the Old Testament. Satan runs it... It just got legs when it crawled onto the world wide web.
Be careful....
Warning! Don't fall away!
