I just received this email from a good friend:

"There is a woman in Waldorf who approached me at the Target while I was getting into my car. She was black, dressed nice, between 35-45 years old, about 40 lbs overweight and has had her hair pulled back. She told me that she is in the military, on her way home to New Jersey, and needs gas money. She also has a Veterans ID badge. BUT… she approached me in the Popeye’s parking lot with the same story about 3 weeks ago. Don’t give her any money!!!! Being the nice person (and sucker apparently) that I am…I gave her $5.00 the first time!!!!"

I know there are plenty of others but just thought I would share this particular one.

FYI...

if you will
Yeah, I've fallen "victim" to a similar sob-story type of scam back in the early 90s. I don't know if I could pull something like that, looking very earnest while telling a total BS story.

I had a women who sounds just like that approach me at the Wawa on Berry Rd. in Waldorf, same story about needing gas money to get to New Jersey. She said she was just passing through MD and supposedly didn't know anyone here, and she had had to spend all her money on a car repair. No military story, though. This was back in July, so if this is the same woman, she's been at it for a while.

If she appeared to be 40 pounds overweight, chances are she wasn't in the military. If you run into her again I suggest you take a close look at the ID card she is flashing. It may belong to someone else.

I guess you haven't seen to many army nasties in uniform! I don't really know why everyone is calling this a scam. People beg for money all the time, and they all have bull#### excuses.

This is a girl. I called her on it too and she acted like I was suppose to see the "Val" in the name. :duh: :killingme

I think every chick on here should create an MPD starting with a guys name followed by "jr", then get irate when referred to as a guy. :lmao:

My husband and I had a similar experience with (sounds like) the same lady at the Olive Garden in Waldorf about 5-6 weeks ago. Didn't have any money to give her at the time, but her story sounded kind of phony (different gas story).

Growing up in PG, we have a universal answer for strangers that ask for money or anything in public....

"If I had it you could get it, cuz I'd love to see ya with it"

I actually thought about changing my ID but knowing that it irritates you just gives me more of a reason not to!

This dumb womans story doesn't make sense. Someone please explain how you would be passing through Waldorf on the way to NJ. It seems a little bit out of the way for somone with no friends and no money.
