I guess nobody here gets what I'm trying to say..

For one, yes, the kids go to school.. would the schools be "gun free" today, tomorrow or the next day? NO..

Would there be heightened security at the basketball games, the hockey games, and ALL events?? YES!!

How much safer are those same kids going to be at school on Monday than today? Do we know how many terrorists there are? I doubt these are the only two. How long do we keep our kids home from school? (I for one think that's a parent's decision, but the government would decide when they do open back up, I would also add, I wouldn't want my kids to go to school in that area until the government took steps to protect the kids).

In the past, Terrorists (especially the ones from their part of the world) are renown for choosing schools as their targets. So you hit on a very good point. We were VERY lucky they didn't chose a school this time.

So yes, I get WHY they are doing what they are doing.. but where does it end, and what changes are we ready and willing to make to make our country a little safer come Monday?

So we use man power to guard everyones day to day events - then how many resources does that take away to aprehend this guy?
You have all the schools/big events guarded - but will that stop him from blowing up a mcdonalds during the lunch rush? Or should we have armed guards EVERYWHERE?

I attended an American school over seas (not a military school - a private multi -national american school out in a public area). I rode a coach bus 2 hours from our location to this school. Whenever there were terrorist threats made ANYWHERE in the world in relation to Americans in foreign locations - my bus had an armed guard on it. And my school had them out front and walking the halls. This was scary for all of us kids. It made school not feel as safe on those days. (in my kids mind - even though now looking back I realize it was safer than it ever would be on any normal day) But it was still scary.

I think in the whole scheme of things - telling the town to lock up for one day is probably a pretty good idea. While they use all resources possible to find this guy - who has already stated that he'll kill. Who has seen his brother get killed and is probably 100% in the mind set not to be taken alive and who obvioulsy doesn't care if he takes anyone with him. Telling people to stay home and out of the way is okay in my book. I don't care if the terrorists will point and laugh and go "ha ha achmed we win" Because at least they're safe.

The FBI has stated these guys purpose is to kill people.

We all know people are stoopid and would go running around the streets potentially getting shot or setting off another bomb. The po po are correct to lock down the 20 blocks or so until this DB is caught.
Then how come they didn't mow a bunch of people down when they had the chance? How come they didn't kill the person they car jacked? How come they didn't wipe out the 7/11?

Obama destroyed America
We should show the terrorists that they don’t win when we stop walking around completely exposed to their evil. One of the things Americans are in a bad habit of doing is not acting vigilantly. If folks were paying more attention they MIGHT have spotted an abandoned backpack. But we get complacent, even though we have had plenty of lessons to tell us not to be. Eventually this will pass, and everyone will go on with their lives and go back to being complacent.

We should also be armed and have the ability to take out someone that is a threat on our own streets. DEFINITELY! They are OUR streets right? How far do you think these guys would have gotten if we had an armed society? This would have been over in a matter of minutes. Here's where I disagree. These guys blended in, dropped off their bombs and left. Tons of cops everywhere. In fact, them knowing we are armed, they probably wouldn’t have bothered.

Deterrence is the best means to fighting crime.
If every person on that street were carrying a gun, they still would have blown up those bombs.

And everyone knows I am very pro-2A but would not have made an ounce of difference here.

Allow me my right to keep and bear arms and that free's up several cops right there. I am not, AM NOT the threat. I am one of the good guys.

No argument here. :buddies:
I'm thinking that's all Bob is trying to say. That we have chosen to disarm ourselves - out of fear of guns - then when things go wrong as a result, we get forced into a corner defenseless wondering why these things are happening.

Exactly.
And they are are now holed up or gone. Over reaction. Unless they are now easing restrictions.

Oh, fiddlesticks and poppycock. None of this happens in a vacuum, in a laboratory where we can change one thing at a time and control the impact on everything else.

If we are allowed to keep and bear arms that takes MILLIONS of sheep and turns a lot of them into shepherds. Maybe one of us, several of us, because we're allowed to look after ourselves, gets suspicious of the possible wolf in sheeps clothing. Some odd behavior, the setting down of a back back and walking away.

An armed society is a polite society. It is also a MUCH more aware society. Our freaked out childish approach to gun control has all sorts of serious, deep negative impacts not least of which is turning shepherds into sheep.

I don't really get how accusing people of suspending rights and calling those who are staying in their homes at the advice of the authorities cowards is the same thing as you are saying. Questioning what "other" rights will be suspended when none were suspended in the first place is disingenuous.

Right! We were still a colony of the British!
They formed a militia to protect the people..same thing...
The Militia, made up of people, are still protecting the rest of the people!
No. Then, you knew your neighbor. You had a gun. He had a gun. We all had a gun. We, you and me, would take to our street to find the bad guy.

Now, the guns are kept by the government and some of us, not even from the neighborhood, go work FOR the government carrying THEIR guns.

How many days did they cancel school every time there was an attack??

The guards, of course, were out of the norm, but you try to keep things as close to normal as you can.. and you weren't even in OUR country.

Okay, I was wrong, a few GET what I was trying to say..

Maybe I got a little emotional about it,

But hey.. don't cancel the Justin Beaver Concert..
Damn bob, throw your guns over your shoulder, jump on your bike and head up there to help them look for this bad guy since you know so much better. He's already killed onr police officet and several innocent bystanders, what's one more?

I can tell you this. If this happened in my county, in my neighborhood, whether they said to or not, I'm not going outside to become his next victim if I can stay inside and protect myself, my home and my kids. I'll wait while all you 8 foot tall and bullet proof macho men go out and find this lunitic. :coffee:

Call me when he's captured. I'll head out then.

Talked to several friends in Boston - one of them was awakened last night when all this went down. They all say it's downright terrifying up there right now.
