Washing Machine Repair

Give Peas a Chance
I'm trying to fix a friend's washing machine and am kind of stuck. The coupler between the motor and transmision (round rubber wheel thingy) is tore up and the plastic peices that hold it to the trans. and the motor are broken. I've found a replacement part online, but I don't know how to dissconnect the transmision from the drum. Anyone have ideas or is knowledgeable on this subject?

Big freaking hammer!!! Seriously there is almost nothing I haven't found a repair for online. Run a search and you might up come up with a forum that addresses it. For example "kenmoore washing machine broken" or "kenmoore washing machine transmission.

Good luck. I ran a search on interior lights on my expedition and fixed my truck with some WD-40 as opposed to having to pay $60/hr for some knuckle head to troubleshoot and lube the door switches.

I had to replace that coupler a couple of months ago. I went to the Sears Parts Store back behind the Springfield Mall in Virginia, was able to buy a repair manual and parts. The repair was fairly straightforward. If I remember the procedures correctly, the Motor and pump has a couple of bolts holding it in place, remove those bolts, and the motor pulls straight out. The coupler is located between the motor and the transmission.
Cost of the repair book was fifteen dollars or so and it was a great help. I don't have it available here at work or I would scan a few of the pertinent pages and email them to you. Sorry.
I'm, of course, referring to the Sears family of washers which I think most are these days except for the newer front loaders.

Concur. Plug in the model number on this page and you will find parts lists and diagrams for the washer.
I've also found tips and parts on-line that I used for maintaining my ancient heat pump for a number of years before I replaced the whole thing last month.

I had this same problem and the manual assured me all I had to do was pull the motor forward. But it was kind of stuck, maybe because the washer is about 12 years old. It was hard to do, but finally it worked. It went back together easily.
