On Thursday, September 26, 2019 the Maryland State Police Waterloo Barrack conducted a DUI sobriety checkpoint and a DUI saturation patrol which netted the arrests of 6 suspected impaired drivers.

The arrests stemmed from a DUI sobriety checkpoint which was conducted at Northbound Rt. 1 north of Maryland 175, Howard County, MD. The DUI saturation patrol was conducted in the surrounding area. The operation was conducted from 10:00 p.m. Thursday evening to 03:00 a.m. Friday morning. 409 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint. The checkpoint and saturation patrol were a collaborated effort on the part of Troopers from the Waterloo Barrack and Officers from the Howard County Police Department.

During both the checkpoint and saturation patrol, 6 motorists were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, 7 motorists were charged with drug related offenses. Other enforcement efforts yielded, 75 traffic stops, 61 citations, 46 warnings and 17 safety equipment repair orders being issued. The checkpoint was assisted by members of the Maryland Department of Transportation and witnessed by representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.)
