We Need This Law in Maryland

Maybe you don't but there are a zillion people who do. Along with their McDonald's trash and anything else they decide they don't want anymore. So while they're going after all these smokers in such a fascist manner, what do they intend to do about people who throw much larger trash on the side of the road???

They should be tied to a chair and forced to listen to Janey give her "Iron Eyes Cody" speech...

:shrug: I don't think a law where citizens tattle on others will fly very well, and I wouldn't trust it (going back to the whole dishonesty thing), but I'm just not condoning people who throw things out on the side of the road. What about those people who leave mattresses or cars w/o engines in the woods? Will we have police officers camping out waiting to cuff these people?

That's a very good point. Singling out cigarette butts is stupid. Why not make it littering in general? Also, if the original post was correct, it is an extremely poor piece of legislation that should have been shot down immediately.

I don't like cigarette butts on the side of the road, but this legislation is just plain bad.

I'm a non-smoker, but I can tell you that in my opinion, those of us non-smokers who will jump on anything to make life difficult for smokers, need to get a life!

Laws have been on the books for YEARS in MOST states, that allow another driver to report same info on ANYBODY they see throwing trash of ANYKIND out the window, to which the reporter remains annonymous and the litterer recieves a fine in the mail, normally in the amount of $100 in Maryland, $300 in PA and Del.

A cigarette butt is litter, they are not biodegradable and I think that it's disgusting to not be able to walk 10 feet in most places without a cigarette butt sticking out like a sore thumb.

I think everyone should be allowed to carry a handgun in the vehicle with them....that way if your driving down the road and someone is slowing traffic by doing 40mph in a 55mph zone...IN THE LEFT HAND LANE...
you get to shoot out their tires and send them careening into the ditch

THAT temptation alone is why I don't carry in PA (where I am permitted to).

That's the stupidest law ever.

So someone cuts me off and I call in and say that they threw a cig out the window. They were certainley on the road at the time in question weren't they? Whatever happened to being able to face ones accuser?
