Behind the scenes of the privately funded border wall

Not even a month later and a privately funded border wall project in Sunland Park, New Mexico is complete. KOAT was at the ribbon cutting event a week and on Wednesday took a behind the scenes look at construction wrapping up.

We Build the Wall, said they have plans to build more sections of border wall on more private properties throughout the country. They have not released the locations because of safety concerns.

Fantasy, Supposition, Innuendo, AND Opinion, actually.

Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for anyone who donated, this group has yet to finish a project.

Can you explain how their not finishing a project is fortunate for you.?
I mean are you in Mexico trying to sneak across or just against the wall?

If it is only that it is in opposition to your wanting illegals to invade your country,it is only fortunate to your mistaken priorities,
and has nothing physically fortunate for you.

We really don't need a wall and the solution is very simple. Enforce the laws on the books and go after the employers who hire illegal immigrants. These folks come here because they can make more money and send it home to the family. If the money supply dries up, everyone goes home. Of course, we all know this isn't going to happen because all of those companies are making big profits off of hiring cheap labor, and they use some of those big profits to buy the politicians in DC.

This would also have the added benefit of creating more jobs for citizens.

Wah, but citizens won't work for those wages.

Well duh, would you? With a level playing field, real capitalism will take hold and the wages will go up to meet the market demand.

Wah, but then everything will get more expensive.

Well not everything, but some things will. That's what happens when prices are kept artificially low by taking advantage of people for so long.

I have tremendous empathy for the poor people of central and Latin America. However, the solution is not as simple as letting them waltz in here by the millions and change the landscape of our country, especially when so many don't come with the intention of integrating themselves into our culture. The solution is to work with them to improve the life in their countries. But, again, the sad truth is that the powerful people of the world don't want that to happen.

Very well said. We can build all the walls in the world but the influx of illegals won't stop as long as employers are willing to higher them. Believe it or not, illegals don't come here for a free ride. They come here to work. Go after the people who are hiring them and they won't have a reason to come here.

The International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) placed a lock Monday on the gate recently built by the group 'We Build the Wall' to keep it open.

An IBWC spokesperson says the gate is built on federal property and 'We Build the Wall' did not receive a permit to construct it.

"'We Build the Wall' did not receive a permit to construct a gate on federal property," IBWC Public Affairs Officer Lori Kuczmanski said. "It is not acceptable."
"The IBWC is a fine example of over reach and growing too big," Kolfage said in one tweet. "They are over stepping DHS, national security experts and undermining President Trump. As soon as they locked our gate open we noticed many other gates around El Paso just opened up!! They are planning for mass invasion."

Ok...so the above is stupid on a couple of levels.

1. The current Trump created immigration "crisis" on the southern border is not comprised of mostly working age males. So your point about employers, while true 20 years ago, is false today.

This would also have the added benefit of creating more jobs for citizens.

2. There are roughly 7.4 million job openings in this country. So your point that stopping illegal immigration will create more jobs for citizens.

Wah, but citizens won't work for those wages.

3. Obviously the problem is deeper than this. Americans have gotten fat and lazy we don't want to work hard anymore.

Well duh, would you? With a level playing field, real capitalism will take hold and the wages will go up to meet the market demand.

4. So this is also an incredibly simplistic view. More likely what would happen is that technology would become cheaper and the jobs would just go away. Capitalism wouln't take hold because the workers have no bargaining power. The employer would still pay the same wage because the jobs require no skills. It's really not difficult to understand this if you have paid any attention at all to the labor markets over the past 40 years.

Wah, but then everything will get more expensive.

5. IF and only IF wages went up...which is not likey.

Well not everything, but some things will. That's what happens when prices are kept artificially low by taking advantage of people for so long.

This is the only point that you have made that is valid and relevant. The problem is fixed at the source. Not here. Not in Mexico. Why aren't Mexicans streaming across the border any more? Because they can get a job IN Mexico. Because they aren't likely to get murdered in their sleep or be forced to watch while their wives and daughters are assaulted.

Oh...and since you could not bring yourself to type the words...the US HAD a policy of aiding the home countries of these people. Our current inept, incompetent and unfit president eliminated those policies and removed the aid.

For those too stupid to understand, Trump's rhetoric and Trump's policies have been instrumental in creating the current "crisis". His "solution", to force Mexico to do things or building a wall, are obviously wrong as they does nothing, nothing at all to get at the root of the problem.
