"Typical White Person"
There are 3 or 4 people in this thread that are making comments about guns, training, self defense, 2A rights, that just haven't a clue. Novus, Radio, Larry and a few others have corrected most of the BS in this thread. To the others :smack: atleast know a little about the topic at hand before making dumbass statements.

Yup...

Are we talking yards or Feet ? 1yrd = 3 feet ?

Larry that seems a bit far for a shotgun ?
...aimed level at 85 yards and a couple of pellets hit a bowling pin sized target.

And, as long as we're talking the 'old' yard, the one they taught me, it is 3' to the yard.

Don't forget...

Today Mr Myrick would go to jail, because his truck and his gun are on school grounds or within 'X' amount of feet of the Gun Free School Zone..

I don't feel...

Ok Larry ............ not trying to bust your balls
...that you are. I read the link and it was about effective range and I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't suggesting anyone consider a shotgun at a 100 yards or so. I was actually surprised that any of the pellets hit such a small target at that range. Best one could hope for is to use it as suppressing fire moving to cover. Maybe put a bad guys eye out! :lmao:

a 20 grain, .25 caliber spherical lead ball leaving the muzzle at about 1,200 ft per second is not something I would want to be hit with at 100 yards. Might not kill me, but I bet it would hurt.

Nothing to be...

Not to give her any ammunition, but University of Texas (in Austin) was under siege by Charles Whitman in 1966 (sorry)
...sorry about. Whitman is his huge anomaly, in a free nation mind you, of horrific gun violence, when their were virtually no anti gun laws and now we have numerous incidences WITH numerous anti gun laws.

Things like Whitman happen in free society. They just do, though not often because freedom comes with a larger sense of personal responsibility.

Things like Columbine and Mr. Hokie happen in anti gun, unfree societies, as we have today, absent the freedom and and absent the societal sense of personal responsibility.

...shotgun pellet still going 1200 fps at 85 yards.

Which reminds me; I need ammo.

The context was high schools or middles schools, not universities. The gun bans in public primary schools did not occur after primary school shootings, they occurred before the first one by a student was perpetrated.

No, a spherical projectile loses velocity very fast in a short distance, but I wouldn't want to get hit with one going 1,200 ft/s, nor would I want to get hit by a .25" ball going 500 ft/s (I don't know the velocity and that is just an example).
A .25 bullet (ACP) out of a 2 inch barrel is only going 800 ft/s and I wouldn't want to get shot by a Raven .25 either at 20 yards.

...no. I wouldn't want to get hit with anything. I don't even remember why it came up at this point. The couple of pellets that hit took off the fresh count of paint and splattered a bit. I would think that it would break the skin at that range. That's why I was saying I could see using it for suppressing fire but certainly not gonna kill or disable anyone with a shotgun at that distance.

I'll wait while someone gets around to it and brings up slugs. :lmao:

Actually previous to this post itsbob brought up Virginia Tech.

I wasnt agreeing with VegMom, obviously banning firearms on school grounds does nothing, if it did, we wouldnt have school shootings. should be pretty simple to figure out.
Agreed with him being an anomaly, NO gun laws and having NO gun laws would have made no difference that day.. No gun law would have prevented him from doing what he did, and having the right to carry wouldn't have done anything either.. All you would have done by returning fire from the sidewalk with a sidearm is help him determine who his next victim was going to be.

This was the first sign that local law enforcement was outgunned.. the point driven home during the bank robbery in LA.

There were five people in the tower before he started shooting that could have stopped him if they had been carrying a handgun, including the receptionist he beat to death with a gun butt.

Question is --- even with looser gun laws would any of those folks have been carrying? (edit- victims that is)

Oops, maybe I'm remembering the wrong event, or remembering the event wrong? It was after all before my time. I thought he just went to the top of a bell tower and started shooting.. similar to the tower on the college I went to..

Didn't know of other people being in the tower.

The answer is, I don't know, and neither does the criminal that is planning on shooting up the place..

Right now the criminal knows WITHOUT A DOUBT, that nobody on that campus is carrying..

If he thinks it's a possibility that ONE person MAY have a gun, it maybe enough to make him re-think his plans and not do it at all.. after all, the people that committ these crimes are generally cowards, and don't want to be confronted.

As the laws are now.. even off duty cops taking classes at a local college can not carry onto the campus or into the classroom..

Retired cops that are teaching in our high schools, retired military.. same same
