they switched over to a new proxy server the same time that CSM upgraded to their new "mycsm" the secure ports aren't matching up ....it's a big PITA

Stupid WebCT went down last night too, I guess because of the transition, and so when I planned to work (that was due that night) a little after 8...of course it was down from 8 till almost midnight :doh: :lmao:

NMCI recently implemented a new firewall scheme, and it's killing alot of external web applications. We've been fighting it for a few weeks.

Ahh...one of the top reasons I'm glad to be out of college. Web CT is awful.

Is it ever done? I thought I was done..then 8 years later here I am getting my MS...I enjoy it so much more than going to a lecture with 300 noisy stinky people...

NMCI = suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.
WebCT = suuuuuuuuuuuucks.

I'm so glad I'm done with WebCT, and don't have an NMCI seat yet. They're working on the NMCI seat though. I'm not looking forward to it. Just creating a login was painful enough.

it's like sky diving...the worst part is actually stepping out of the plane...just start it and you'll be fine...

just so everyone who cares knows..just got off the phone with their high level troubleshooter, or whatever you want to call it...he said whatever they did when they switched to mycsmd is causing a conflict in the proxy..he forwarded it up to the web development team and they will get back to me...i'll try to keep you all in the loop.

Anymore word? When i talked with the NMCI helpdesk yesterday, they said to find out what ports CSM is using for the site.. Not sure if it would do me any good to find out that info from CSM or what.. Guess I can ask this evening when I go to class and see what my instructor says..

What you need to do is have CSM support call the NMCI support. Let them work it out. CSM now needs to be added to an exception list to allow things to work.

yeah...the NMCI Web development team is working it...and the guy i talked to said they would figure out what was wrong and if they couldn't fix it they would forward it over to the CSMD web team...

WebCT

The problem with WebCT is that they decided to use a non-standard port (8443) that is currently in use by something else within NMCI. If, and only if, CSM changes the port they use will WebCT work within NMCI. Kudos to CSM.

I had to use Web CT when I was taking classes with National-Louis, they switched to Blackboard, it took getting use to, but it was better in the long run.

:yeahthat: the next move is to keep bombarding CSM's web team with email that they need to change this...I started this weekend and will continue to do so until they change it...I hope you all will too...

Reply From College Helpdesk

I also have been having issues with the new CSM website. I emailed the helpdesk and got the following reply today:

"....you're not alone in the problem with the 8443 issues. But I have heard that it will be changed to a less restrictive port, 443, and I believe it could be changed as early as tomorrow morning during our maintenance schedule. If you have any other questions let me know."

It looks like the problem will be resolved soon since they are going to a less restrictive port.
