Webmail around NMCI

From what I understand, you can't get all kinds of web-based mail past NMCI (e.g. Hotmail).

There's gotta be SOME kind of workaround - because it used to be that all e-mail was zero attachment, web based messaging - the kind that could never be a threat to an intranet. You know - just *words*.

Does anyone know of such an alternative?

 Are you talking about accessing web-based email (i.e. Hotmail) within NMCI, or the restrictions on font formatting, etc. in email messages?

Well I know a lameass workaround for gmail. I don't know if it will work for yahoo mail or hotmail... but Google Mail will let you get your mail via pop server - so you can connect with Outlook Express or Eudora or something.

So you set your email client up to receive mail from gmail - and then leave it running at home all day, and set a script or a rule or whatever that will forward all incoming mail to your work email address.

Yes, but I don't want to do that - I don't want to "push" my mail to my work mail - I want to "pull" my mail from my place of work. Otherwise, I'm forwarding TONS of junk and spam to my work mailbox and commingling it with my work stuff. Never want to do that.

get a RAS account setup and get your PKI cert on a floppy...if youre trying to get NMCI email from home.

if youre trying to bypass the filters NMCI is using....try using the same link VRAI or somebody else posted last year when people on NMCI couldnt connect to SOMD.COM. I don't know what the link was. And I'm not geeky like that to give you anymore info.

Has anyone ever figured out a good workaround for this? It kills me not to be able to check my Yahoo e-mail over lunch from work...

The only thing I know that comes close is, if you have Verizon Wireless, you could pay a few extra bucks a month to check it on your cellphone.

Two of the many reasons why NMCI blocks web mail access from inside the NMCI environment.

1- you shouldnt be checking your personal email at work.. Just like you shouldnt be posting on SOMD.com, while at work.

2- People were using thier home email accounts to send sensitive work related information back and forth over non-secure email servers.
