I had friends in PA that would just go to the local hotel for the weekend..

Indoor pool, someone to make your bed and clean your room everyday.. room service if you were so inclined.

My suggestion is Colonial Beach, VA. You can get a room at Days Inn for less than $80 bucks. Walk the beach, go to dinner... My husband and I are going next weekend.

borrow some camping gear......sitting next to the camp fire at night, strolling thru the nature trails during the day.....could be nice, I always enjoyed camping with hubby.
Tent sites are very cheap. I loved snuggling in the sleeping bag....

We stayed here for our anniversary. Luray Virginia Bed & Breakfast, South Court Inn Bed and Breakfast, Cottage,Luray Caverns,Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park,Shenandoah Valley Virginia B&B Lodging, weddings, elopement package, honeymoon. It was very nice. Not that far of a drive either. We love the town. You can always go see the caverns too. Oh, and the food was absolutely awesome.

Shenandoah is absolutely lovely, especially during the colder months!

Westmoreland St Park. Less than an hour away from CHarlotte Hall. If you don't want to camp they have really nice cabins and this is the off season.:yahoo:

I agree. If you have a chance to go in the fall when the leaves are changing take advantage. It's absolutely breathtaking.

It sure is. Hubby took me there a couple of years ago in early October and it was beautiful. We went to the Caverns, then just drove up Skyline Drive. We stopped for a picnic and just relaxed. It was a really nice way to spend a fall day.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner ... yes it is, Kathy and Charlie are wonderful hosts but they won't hover so you feel like you have the place to yourself, very peaceful weekend , we relaxed on the deck and the hammock , fished for awhile right there off the bank and boat dock and cooked the fish for dinner on the grill , delicious ! we hope to go back someday soon .

Guess it all depends on how "strapped" you are. Who says you have to go away. Find some things for you two to do together during the day like a bike ride, picnic, or free wine tastings (if your old enough) then spend that money you were going to use on a hotel room and spend it at a dayspa getting a massage together or massage each other and even save more money. Want to go camping? save the money if you have your own equipment talk to someone that has a private beach and pitch your tents. I love my beach area. Ive got a million ideas just depends on your tastes and how much you want to spend.

Hubby and I use to live in a low income housing developement when we first started out together. ( we both have kids from our first marriage ) We would pack the kids up with pup tents and camping gear. tent sites can be very cheap, and we would go just down the street to Take It Easy Ranch. We would have a blast, the kids would use the pool all weekend and fish in the pond. We would have camp fires at night, the kids have some great memories from those times. It would get them out of the neighborhood and away from trouble. We would sometimes even go down to Point Lookout State Park. We would come up with all kinds of Free/Cheap Family things to do...you just have to be creative. We would find camping and fishing gear at yard sales.
