Weekend Playgroups

I have read several posting of parents inquiring about playgroups and activities for there children, but I have not found any useful information on the where and the when.

I am a working mother with a long commute, and I am looking for a place or park to take my baby and step-daughter to on weekends in Southern Maryland to participate in fun, educational, structured, and unstructured play/learning enviornment. Do they exist in southern maryland? Right now I am forced to drive to Washington, DC for my baby to participate in Gymboree on saturdays.

My baby is nine months and my step-daughter is five years old. Please respond with helpful solutions.

I'm also a working mom who has been looking for a playgroup on the weekends -- and I believe I've found one. It's called Kiddos and it's in St. Mary's County. (Hopefully that's a closer drive for you.)

They offer classes throughout the week and on weekends and have an "open gym" time as well on Saturday. I'm going to be bringing my little girl (1 year old) to try it out this weekend during the open time (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) If we like it, I'll try signing up for either an evening class after work or the one on Saturday. Just as a quick follow-up to my previous post, we went to the Kiddos gym on Saturday and our little one loved it! I would highly recommend going...everything is super soft, lots of age appropriate activities, nice staff, etc. We'll be going back again soon!

Kiddos is great

Kiddos is great, but my daughter has only been to the playgroup on Monday's. I cannot speak for the open playgroup on Saturday's.

Also, you could look into Kindermusik. There is a lady, Lynn Bouchard who does these playgroups on saturdays at Sharon's Dance Studio in Waldorf. It's still far, but not as far as D.C. There's a website Preschool Children's Music Class - Kindermusik. My daughter did Kindermusik from 6months until 15months. The only reason we stopped was because it interferred with our schedule. I believe they offer a group for your older daughter as well.

There is a Little Gym in La Plata. Anyone know of another in the area?

Little Gym

I was under the impression that the Little Gym closed in La Plata. I think it's a cheer gym, but I'm not sure. I know there is a Little Gym in Waldorf next to Sharon's Studio of Dance.

I haven't been through La Plata in a while, so that may be true.

When I checked for kindermusik classes in St. Mary's the instructor didn't offer any weekend classes. I don't know if she's added some since then, but that was my only turn off. It worth it to look into it.

Kiddos is for sale : ( The owner pledges to find an owner who shares her business philosophy so hopefully that's true.

It did...

It did just open. The lady who opened Kiddos, I believe her husband is military so they're going to be moving soon. What a bummer, you open a really great place that everyone seems to be raving about and then you have to sell it.
