Weird nasty bump

Has anyone ever seen something like this? My boxer Molly came in yesterday a.m. with this weird bump/lesion on her leg? It's not bothering her at all but it worries me. I emailed pix to my vet and I'm waiting for a response. I gave her some benedryl last night.

It's hard to tell in the pictures, but could it be Ring Worm? Poor Baby! I hope that the Vets gets back to you soon.

I just got an email from my vet who said the picture was blurry but it looked like an insect bite. Does it look like something that could be from worms? Would my other dog have it too?

I'm no Doctor, but Ring Worm I don't think, is an actual Worm. I think it's like a Fungus. The only reason it looks like Ring Worm to me, is because of what looks like raised edges, and it's symetrical. I would go with what the Vets says, because she/he is more knowledgeable that I am. If it is Ring Worm, it can definitely be passed from Animal to Animal, to Human. When I was a child, I'd get it a lot, and the Doctor said it was from the Sand Box. (?)

Well that's what worried me, it was so symmetrical and all of a sudden, wasn't like she had been licking an area or anything ! I'm going to call the vet again now and ask. I have a 11 month old baby in the house and he loves and plays with these dogs all day long.. I need to make sure it's not worms.. Thank You

I looked Ring Worm up, and I was right...it has NOTHING to do with Worms, it's a Fungus!

It doesn't really look like ringworm to me. Ringworm usually has raised edges and is usually pretty crusty and white. It's not always white, but it usually looks pretty bumpy/crusty.

But to be sure, don't let the dog near the kids. Ringworm is extremely contagious spreads like crazy.

Did it just pop up suddenly?

My concern is Boxer and lump. From the picture, it looks as if it could be a mast cell tumor.

Gosh Manolo, and Catt..I hope that you guys are wrong! Usually Cancer has irregular borders, this looks pretty well rounded off. If you look closely, the border is raised like Ring Worm, and the center of it looks raw, just like Ring Worm when it first presents. You two know your Boxers, and Manolo..it's still fresh in your memory, but again..I hope that you're both wrong.

Okay, my vet has only mentioned that it could be an insect bite. Do I need to see someone else to rule out MCT? I know boxers are so prone to Cancer and tumors so I don't even want to chance it.
This bump or whatever it is literally happened over night, it wasn't a gradual growth of anything and the vet just checked her out last week !!

Sure he hasn't been licking at it, maybe did so overnight? Seems like a hotspot. They can pop up very quick and grow in size in just hours. Is it oozing? Hotspots occur for a number of reasons with the main reason being........a bug bite like your vet said.

Did you take your dog back to the vet or just call on the phone? I would certainly get it looked at. Maybe Catt will chime in with the name of the specialist she went to.

I also thought of a hot spot, but after observing her for 24 hours, she's not licking or messing with it at all.

I sent a PM to Catt also, I think we use the same vet so I'm going to see if she had any other ideas of where I might get her checked out just to be sure.

I would take her in to see her regular Vet. You said earlier that you emailed her the pictures, and she said they were blurry or something. She never actually saw the wound. Tell her your concerns for MCT. I really hope that it is something simple. Let us know what happens, and good luck to you.

I agree with the others, have it checked. My Brandy's mast cell started between her 2 front toes and it was red, raised and symetrical. Doc's originally thought it was some sort of infection even though it wasn't oozing. Her's came about very quickly too, seemed like over night. Good luck with whatever it may be.

PLEASE GET IT CHECKED ASAP!! The pictures made my heart jump. My Indy's MCT started on his face. Looks just like that. Do a full biopsy not just a needle. We didn't get a positive diagnosis until we did a full one.

I don't want to scare you but you need to be proactive. Better safe..... I don't want anyone to go thru what we went thru.

We saw an oncologist in Annapolis.
