Weird screen problem

My hubby was on the computer and has messed something up. Both the left and right hand sides of the screen are squished. It runs from top to bottom about an inch on each side. I've tried rebooting, changing display settings, etc, but nothing works.

Anybody have any helpful ideas (other than not letting hubby on the computer :lmao: )?

Sounds like the pincushion settings for the monitor itself, not the video card.. Pull the menu up for the monitor and fiddle with the pincushion setting...:yay:

Sounds like the pincushion settings for the video card, and not the monitor itself. Beat your husband for looking at porno and messing up your computer, and then go get a new one! That'll show him!

Since I don't sew, I might be wrong.

The problem is I do have a new computer - I just haven't moved everything off this old one yet. Maybe he's trying to push me into getting it done. :lmao:

Where do I find "pincushion" settings? I see "advanced geometry" with different pin settings (side pin, pin balance, trapezoid, parallelogram, rotation) and a "reset" option. Is that it?

hmmmmmmm, I'm not sure, I am working with a gateway monitor that is about 3 years old.. I have a pincushion setting..Maybe the side pin or the pin balance.

There should also be a hor. and vert. settings as well...

I have a menu button on my monitor, and I can cycle through all the settings with up down arrows...

This is an HP with a select button - menu pops up that has brightness, contrast, zoom, size & position, advanced geometry, advanced menu, and degauss options.

I guess I would start with the advanced geometry... I have a trapezoid setting but that is not it.. Does it sort of look "hourglass"???

Choose size and position. Center it up(position), and then (size) make it real big so it fits right in there up to the edge... Problem solved!!

Wish it were that simple. I've tried all that and it's still doing it. I changed the resolution to 800x600, which eliminates the problem, but I prefer 1024x768.

Try "size and position" Mine calls it vertical and horizontal size. That sounds like your problem. I had the same one. Come to find out baby'd been pushing buttons I didn't even know existed. I had to pull out the manual.

Is it a flat panel monitor? I ask because the majority of the flat panel monitors out today have button on them to auto adjust. It does all the work for you.

No, it's not a flat panel. It's a POS HP that is going to get the boot next weekend come hell or high water.

I noticed last night it does do the weird thing at 800x600 resolution, even though I said it didn't, but it's not as obvious as at 1024x768. I tried using the "Reset" option under the settings, but it makes the screen too big for the display. When I try to shrink it using the horizontal controls, I get the squished sides again. :tantrum

Jazz, it may be the high voltage power supply going bad since it is a tube type monitor.

I don't know what it is. I guess I could try swapping monitors with the one on the new system and see if it still happens.
